After reading the article the 56 Cameo amazingly looked like a 58 and the 65 Impala looked very similar to a 63. I guess being stored that long they aged into those years !

Cool as it would be to have that Cameo, they'll ask a gazillion dollars for it - and in a way I suppose its worth it. BUT if you paid the big bucks you could never drive it. Driving it would immediately eliminate the very reason it's special.

All that said? If I won the Lotto I'd buy it AND drive it!

The info on the cars isn't great but many of the vehicles they have have very few miles.

It does look like something got dropped on the truck Orrie. That may even have happened when it was delivered on the convoy truck. It must have been nice for what is said to be a small mom and pop dealership to be able to hang onto a new but damaged truck and not have to fix it and sell it or wholesale it.

My guess is they will get far more than what they gave trade in for the ones outside in the back lot and a pot load of cash for the ones stored inside.

It's too bad that the Cameo got damaged. I'd love to get an up close look at those cars but don't think I'd want to own one. Cars like that become something to keep up but you don't want to drive and put miles on. One of the guys on the Dodge forum that I used to frequent bought a 71 Dodge pickup with less than 300 miles. He drove it sparingly until it got 900 miles and didn't want to see it get to 1000, so he sold it on EBay.

Neat stuff to watch. I had a hard time listening to the lady though. She sounded too excited about the chance to sell everything.

I don't think I'd have a huge problem driving those low mileage vehicles. They're not priceless artwork, they're just unmolested vehicles. There are plenty of extremely well restored versions of them around and some look better than new. Plus you'd have to do plenty of work to drive them. All the rubber brake components need replacing, the old seals are going to fail soon after startup, the old gaskets won't last long, weatherstrip and vinyl are likely to give out before long. If you did make it driveable you'd have plenty of work to get it and keep it there. I think the neatest thing is that you'll get as close as you can to experiencing new car quality from the year the vehicle was new.

In the late 80's a contractor I was working with got a late 60's Porsche 911 for his wife. It had been garaged and not driven for over 15 years with about 35k on the odometer. He thought he had won the lottery, low miles, etc. About $15K later he was not so sure, she started driving it and ended up replacing most of the suspension, body mounts, brake rubber lines, etc and having the engine torn down and put back to getter because the rings would not seal and it was leaking like crazy. When I got my 64 chevelle at 82K miles it had been garaged for most of its life. After driving it daily for about 6 months the inteior, which appeared to be in perfect condition except for the driver seat fabric, started to desinigate from the UV light. I also had problems with water pump and rear tranny seal. The biggest advantage to buying one of those would be a rust free body, frame and mechanicals with low miles, but just jumping in and driveing probably will not happen.

They will need a very thorough detailing for sure. It's the low mileage and originality that makes those vehicles valuable. Someone will pay very high dollar for them in their current condition but if they start adding miles to them and replace the original date coded parts to make them actually usable the value will drop. As the saying goes, they are only original once. Possibly a museum will get some of them.

I actualy have a relative who met a guy who inherited a 40s ford truck that had not been driven since it was 3 months old. The story goes that the guy bought it and died shortly after. His wife never learned how to drive so the truck just sat in the garage for 60 years. She died and truck passed on to him. He never put air in the tires and they had never been filled since they were new. He sold the truck to a collector and got a small pile of money to build on. I don't know about the tires actualy holding the original air but if they did that's a valuable truck.

I would get that 58 running again for free just to have them let me drive it and find out what a new one drove like in comparison to my 57 that I have driven for 37 years,
even if it was just a mile.

My '36 Plymouth was put in a garage in '59 and sat there until I pulled it out in '04. I was able to use a foot pump to air up three of the tires. The fourth wouldn't hold air so I swapped it with the spare. The spare was doing fine until my father decided to use his 12V compressor to add air and blew the tube. That car has 55k miles and much of the original rubber and fabric is intact. I replaced the front windshield and actually re-used the original rubber seal instead of the aftermarket replacement I'd purchased. As Orrie said, it's the sunlight and UV that do the most damage.

I am freaking overwhelmed. Over 500 cars. Lots of 4 doors but some hidden gems. Vega wagon and hatchback, both with less that 10 miles. 46 chevy wrecker (I'd like to see that). 69 SS396 with 65K. There must be a dozen 64 chevy trucks with less than 50 miles on them. Lots of Corvairs. From the photos on the auction site there is going to be lots of advertising documents and displays/signs, NOS parts, (hubcaps, trim etc.) too

Either folks will show up with lots of money, hoping to buy, hoard and make more money and thing will go for a lot OR there is so much that the prices will need to be relatively inexpensive because of the total outlay some one would need to make.

It is going to be a no reserve auction over 2 days September 28th and 29th. Wish it were closer I'd go to watch and maybe snag something cheep later on when everyone else has spent their money. 500 x 5K is 2.5 million so I guess maybe some buyers could buy large lots.

Is it going to be a no reserve auction, and for how many days? I know around here it took Silver about 8-10 hours to run thru 120 +- car auctions. Maybe they will run multiple rings?

you posted while I was editing my post after looking at the auction site. two days, no reserve. I do not understand why the family did not cherry pick a few of a specifice year, say 1964 and set up the dealership as a period correct museum. They could pay for it by selling the rest of the stuff.

Trust me, being located where it is there would be no museum traffic. Google Pierce, NE and see what I mean. I'm from the area and there just isnt many people around here.

Anyone that would buy any of those vehicles, and mess any of them up would be nuts.
None are meant to be used abused driven, cleaned up yeah, and then put in a glass box, in a museum.
Any guesstimates of what the prices will be like? I wonder what the paint is like under all that dust? Some of the vehicles maybe a bit more messed up than what the pictures show too.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist.
