How much does a 216 weigh

Building a garage and need to make sure a cross beam supports pulling the engine. The carpenter asked. I found a website saying 600 lbs. Is that right?

Re: How much does a 216 weigh

The link in my signature has that information. 600# would be a safe number to use. You might want to look at sizing it to hold more in case you need to support more weight. doubling the allowable load does not necessarily double the size to the beam. I designed my garage trusses for 250# storage (attic trusses) and 2500 point load for two of the truss bottom chords in case I needed to hold up one end of something like the front half of a car or truck.

From an engineering perspective use a safety factor of 5 in the design. Injury to oneself greatly outweighs the additional safety cost.
