Wiw?
Yeah, I know,
I went to see a 72 LWB at a local car dealer(Rick Hendrick Chevy)the other day. I'll get pics soon. 1972 C-10 Rebuilt 350CI 4-bolt; bored out to 400; mild cam(very noticeable); edelbrock intake/carb; headers; and more TH400 Turquoise paint - little bit of rust bubbling on the pass. door; little bit of rust forming in the bed. Interior - vinyl bench seat; all perfect interior, SunPro Tach Middle of hood bounces when you drive it, bit a bondo on hood. Timing ping when above 2000RPM. (Most likely because of low octane fuel?) He originally asked 12K, but when I went to see it he wanted 7900. The owner has the dealer selling it for him, his daughter needs surgery for a tumor, so he is selling all of his toys. I said what I thought it was worth(I saw it in person)I told him $4500 and why. He agreed that I was probably right. He'll take 5500 right now. Should I buy it and try to resell it for more?

Re: Wiw?
Bored out to 400?? Did they tell you that?
Oh and you know the drill...Pics...no body can tell you didly squat about it's value without seeing it. I will tell you right now that going from 12000 to 5500 sounds fishy to me. It's probably a 2500 dollar truck at best.

Re: Wiw?
Lets see some pics. You could probly make some money by reselling. Thats a gamble maybe worth taking, might take a while, might not. At $5500, that doesnt seem to have alot of room for profit making it worth your while IMO the way it is described. I have been wrong before, so I may be wrong again.

Re: Wiw?
I always wonder about sob stories. It is like the bum on the street that needs money for food, but when you offer to buy them a sandwich they aren't interested. If the truck is worth the money they wouldn't need to add stories. No matter what I wouldn't pay them what they are asking, that is a dealer's dream. Make him work for his pay.

Re: Wiw?
The dealer isn't really selling it, the guy asked if it could sit in their lot out front and anyone looking at it can get the owners number. I don't know what I would do with it if I couldn't resell it.

Re: Wiw?
I`d wait until I learned alot more about these trucks, and vehicles in general,as well as wait for expendable cash before I started buying vehicles to flip for profit.A rule of thumb:If you are paying what it`s worth there`s no money to be made on it.Sure there are fools, but you don`t go into a deal counting on finding one.Remember, the fool could be you.If you are buying it for $5,500,$4,500,or whatever it doesn`t become worth as much as what he started out wanting just because you bought it.You need to be one of the guys that answer WIW threads, not one asking,if you expect to make any money.

Re: Wiw?
Here is my opinion (for what its worth) I agree with everyone else, we need pics.. but your own statement ( and please dont take any offense )
:I said what I thought it was worth(I saw it in person)I told him $4500 and why. He agreed that I was probably right. He'll take 5500 right now. " "Should I buy it and try to resell it for more? " you've seen it and say its only worth $4500, he dropped it down to $5500 from 12K? He is a dealer and knows what these are worth, and I'm sure he is asking some type of commission on this sale, unless its a good friend of his, then he would be advertising and everything else for the guy... Only once have I made a profit on a purchase, usually I buy it as a project, spend money on it, and sell it.. My motto,, buy high,, sell low... LOL... but some guys are really good at it, but have people in mind who are looking as well. I've never been able to flip a car that I bought from a dealer... good luck and of course, no matter what you do, we need to see some pics!

Re: Wiw?
sounds like the type of truck you can buy for $5000 and hold on to it for a couple of weeks and resell for $2500

Re: Wiw?
even with pictures, you can get a bad truck... unless you crawl over every inch of that truck with a punch and hammer, there is always the chance that someone painted over rust.
there are a number of ways to use household things to patch a giant hole in a frame (aluminum foil, bondo...) and you won't know until everything rattles loose in a couple weeks. ALSO, if the dealer doesn't own it, then you probably have less recourse if there turns out to be a problem. lots of states have "lemon laws" but for SURE, you are going to get better response from a dealer vs. some guy who's got a sick kid and is already hard up for a buck. Re: Wiw?
Normally to flip a truck for profit...you buy a truck and you do the resto and then you sell it. To buy a finished truck and then try an flip it for a fast buck in this economy is a real challenge. JMHO

ok well gold has been pretty stable for a long time, so it seems like a great choice.

Re: Wiw?
I stopped today to look at a 72 in a dealer's lot I saw while driving by. It looked good from 20 ft. But on closer inspection it was a garage paint job or maaco at best with scratches and rust. Bed wood was shot, interior was decent. Had 20" ugly modern chrome rims on it. Wanted 7900 for it. I'd have paid about 2000 and that's only because I could get probably 1500 or so for the rims.
I bought my 69 shortbed to restore but ended up deciding to sell it after several on here said it'd be worth between 6-8K plus. Well, three months of Ebay and listing on here and it hasn't sold for 3600. So, the market is officially dead for the moment and flipping is a really bad idea.

Re: Wiw?
You can do well buying failed projects, getting them together and running/driving to make money. But,flip just doesn`t seem to be the right word right now.

Re: Wiw?
Since I am looking for another truck at the moment, here is my insight.
There are great trucks to be had in the 3-5K range. Originals that need little to no work. Maybe some need a paint job or if you are like me I do not mind patina. There are "restored" trucks which are trying to get big money, but most of them are custom jobs and lack any resale value IMO. If you say it is restored then do it stock and keep the value... Too many "restored" trucks seems to have bubbling paint as well. Hmmm. Beaters where people are asking WAAAAAY too much money! If the rockers, cab corners, and rain gutters are rusty then you have a big project. Do not ask 7500 for it. You guys know what I am talking about. Again there are decent deals out there and every they move slowly. In summary Flipping is not going to happen.
