Split Rim Problems

Was wondering if anyone has any knowledge on how to properly remove the ring off a split rim wheel? Found the notch in the ring and I guess you hook it and start prying until it comes free? Any help would greatly be accepted.
It's on a 56 gmc heavy 3/4ton.

Re: Split Rim Problems

Those thing should not be messed around with. I believe you need safety straps around them as those rings can go flying and I have seen pictures of the guys on the receiving end... not pretty

Exclamation Re: Split Rim Problems

had a set on my 79 3/4 ton. even with the air out of them i had a hell of a time getting the ring off. trust me save yourself time and fustration. take them to a heavy truck tire shop. those guys know what to do. espically if you plan on using the wheels. I my one wheel up and could not get a used one so i ended up buying 4 new wheels. they charged me 25 bucks to dismount all four tires. even the ont that i got the ring off but the tire was stuck. I had to learn the hard way, hopefully you won't have too

Re: Split Rim Problems

take it to the tire shop, a bill from your local hospital will add up to way more than the local tire shop charges!
