Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

I can tell you backspacing.
20x8.5 with 5.25"-5.5" backspace would be my choice.

I see most everyone is running 5 1/4 but with the modulars and narrowing the track width would I be at 4.5? I think they say it will bring my wheel in 3/4"

With modulars? Aren't they 3/4" narrower? That would put you at 4.75-5" BS, no?

This is what I was thinking. I see majority of people are running 5 1/4 with non modulars, hoping there is someone here with my exact set up. Thanks for the help

I have never seen anyone post actual numbers for the CPP Modular spindles.
I've seen the chart that CPP put out,... but it has some issues.
If they are 1/2" narrower than a standard drop spindle,... I would be surprised.

Non modular spindles,... I would run a 20x8.5 with 5.75" BS just like n2billet's Lucy had.

I got the 2.5's from CPP. I'm hoping to be able to run 18x9.5 w 5-5.5 bs on all four corners.

I am interested in this too as I have the 73-87 control arms and drop spindles. My existing setup has the wheel/tire too far outward and it rubs a lot. I want to center them more in the inner fender.

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

Here's the thread with the CPP offset chart.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=529285
It says,...

Standard CPP Drop Spindles:
* 1/16" wider than DRUM BRAKES.
* 7/16" narrower than factory DISC BRAKES.

CPP Modular Drop Spindles:
* 1/4" narrower than DRUM BRAKES.
* 3/4" narrower than factory DISC BRAKES.

Also states at the bottom of the 73-87 chart that Western Chassis drop spindles are:
* 7/8" wider than DRUM BRAKES.
* 3/8" wider than factory DISC BRAKES.

Never on the chart does it say "per side" or "total track width narrower/wider".

If I had a set of the Modular Spindles,... I would measure them against a set of Belltech spindles I have and would put an end to all of this.

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

I have a hard time believing CPP's standard drop spindles are only 1/16" wider than the drum brake set-up.
The design of the spindle will have to widen the track width.
Plus CPP takes into no account the fact that drop springs or cut springs will also widen the track width, as the lower control arm "flattens out" due to the shorter spring.

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

Here's another thread that adds to the confusion,... with a member saying that CPPJEFF said,... it move the wheels in 3/4" per side,... (again COMPARED TO WHAT?)
1) Drum brakes?
2) Stock OEM Disc Brakes?
3) Other Drop spindles?
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=401544

But yet,... in the same thread,... there is a quote from CPP's website:

Modular™ Drop Spindle Wheel Kits

Looking for a spindle and brake kit for your lowered truck with big tires and wheels?
We have it!
Introducing CPP's new modular 2" drop spindle and drop spindle wheel kits for 1960-87 Chevy pickups.
Our exclusive new design helps solves tire to fender interference commonly found with lowered trucks.
Our new modular spindle and bracket works with factory 1971-87 C10 brake components, or for a HIGH performance option, combine our spindle with the NEW CPP 13" Rotor Twin 52mm Piston Brake Kit.
The ALL NEW CPP Modular Spindle offers many benefits available for the first time, installs easy without modifications, works with factory ball joints and tie rod ends, lowers your truck a full 2", offers adjustable steering stops, provides 1-1/8" more fender to tire clearance, allows use with standard factory brakes and PERFORMANCE aftermarket "BIG" Brake Kits.
You can count on CPP for impressive quality, performance and price.
Drop spindles also sold separately.

Ok,... so my math skills say that 1-1/8" is only 9/16" per side.
So what is it?
And compared to what?

All I can say is these CPP Modular spindles are the narrowest drop spindles out there for the 60-87 trucks.
But they are only an advertised 2" drop.

So back to what I always say.
Install them and then,... measure your own truck for wheels.
There's no other "sure fire way",... than that.

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

What ever came of this . I'm about to order wheels and was gonna run the modular spindles because I thought it was gonna narrow my track width 3/4 so I can get a deeper back spacing wheel. Also I'm wanting to run a 18x9.5 on the front if I can.

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

Realize this is an old thread, but I think the information may be useful as folks are searching the site.

Just spoke with Van @ CPP, he said that the statement "provides 1-1/8" more fender to tire clearance" is a comparison to other vendors' kits. Assume he meant drop spindle there but he could have been talking about the CPP Big Brake Kit with Modular Drop Spindles as a full setup. He also said that people have measured after install with as much as 3/8" change in either direction.

Nope. It sounded like they'd heard the question 1,000 times and were irritated that I'd called to ask about it for 1,001.
