What is this part for?

Good morning - I really need to know what the following part if for. It came with the master cylinder, is it only for use with non-boosted mc's? I am referring to the thimble shaped rubber boot.

Re: What is this part for?

It came with my MC, I put it over the end of the mc that mates to the booster. I think it was not supposed to go on there.

Re: What is this part for?

Are you referring to the actuator rod that comes out of the booster?

If so then that means the larger open end would set against the booster right?

When I removed the old MC there was rubber around the MC's end so I thought it went that way.
