What 5 lug rear axle do you guys think
I am wanting to change the rear end in my 67 to 5 lug instead of 6. What years will interchange without too much modifaction?

I would say the easy way would be to just change the axles. they make a axle to change from the 6 to the 5 lug I think Moser has them

Re: What 5 lug rear axle do you guys think
67-69 and some 70 model differentials are about 1/2" shorter per side compared to the 71-72 5 lug differentials. I know from experience as I am going through the same conversion.
You can buy conversion axles from some suppliers. These would be the shorter, correct length for your differential tubes, and they would be 5 lug. You can have your 6 lug axles welded up and re-drilled to 5 lug. You can have 5 lug axles shortened to the 6 lug axle length and re-splined. All these options require you to buy the correct drums, etc. Or, you can buy a 71-72 rear end with all of the correct axles, brakes, etc., and have it rebuilt and painted. You might even be able to select your drive ratio, or even put a posi chunk in it. I am going the whole rear end route as I can buy it rebuilt, rebuild the brakes, and do the swap in a day. Your mileage may vary. |

Re: What 5 lug rear axle do you guys think
I am also interested in redrill info. I am torn right now between 5 and 6 lug conversion. I have all new front end disk brake parts, but they are 5 lug. So either I buy new rotors, or I redrill rears. I'm leaning toward redrilling because I want to run some 5 spoke rally rims or cragars.

Re: What 5 lug rear axle do you guys think
I bought my Moser 5 lug axles for around $260 from Summit w/ free shipping. The swap only took about 1 hour and most of that was scraping the old gasket off the differential cover!

Re: What 5 lug rear axle do you guys think
Doing a 5-lug conversion on my '70 C10 as well. For the rear, i just need axles and drums? All the brake hardware the same '70-'71?

Re: What 5 lug rear axle do you guys think
Really confused here, I have the wide rear end that came in the '70 C10, if I get the 5 lug conversion axles, would i technically have a '71-'72 rear end? any help shedding some light on this would be great. I'm trying to get everything ordered for the conversion/drop, don't want to miss anything.

If you ordered stock style 1971-72 axles with 5 lugs, they would be the wrong length for your 1967. Clear as mud? Gary

Re: What 5 lug rear axle do you guys think
We used the rear end out of the (75 - 76 ?) suburban which was the donor for my engine & trans.
Easy install & instant 5 lugs matching the whole front end swapped out of same vehicle. |
