Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
Appears to be a Scot Built or similar. A company bought GM trucks, took them to their factory and turned them into crew cabs, extended cabs, etc. There were several companies that did this. Various bed lengths were available. It appears you have a stock length frame and they shortened the bed to accomodate the cab stretch. Some had lengthened frames and larger boxes.

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
Judging from the color is belonged to the Union Pacific Railroad. Those trucks typically had the UP Shield on the door. Any signs of that?
What I noticed right away iss the bed is very short in front of the rear wheels. Is there a back door on the driver's side?

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
there were 5 companies who were contracted by GM to stretch those and suburbans. Stageway was one of them and also Scottbuilt was too. their were 2,3 and 4 door crew cabs. mostly used for fire fighters, railroad and logging. they are not very comon at all and are pretty sought after. the crew cabs more that the 2 or 3 door ones.
here is my dad's crew, for some inspiration...

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
The cab was originally on a Chassis/Cab, then the dealer put a wrecker bed on it when the original person who special ordered it failed to pick it up at the dealer. That's where the window was made larger for a better view, the dealer used it for years and years until it went out of business ( small town Chevy dealer in the mid 80's IIRC) the shop foreman bought the truck for nostalgia and eventually for the BB in her ( I think 409) I found her in 2000 sitting in a field all lonely and wanting for a new home. I bought her and then gave her to my dad when my ex wife nuked over the purchase. He built her over 4 years, new chassis and everything.

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
Usually RR truck would have a custom wheel that was real narrow to ride the rails. Im not sure if those stock wheels are narrow enough for that, but then could have been replaced too.

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
the doors did have some half circle shield on them at one time you can just see the outline looks like the doors were repainted at one time. I dont think this truck was set up to go down the tracks. The lever on the dash is hooked into the brake lines. I see no signs of a PTO any were it is a 235 engine a think

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
would probably be the 250 or 292 engine if its a straight six. 235's were about done in 62 with the 230 coming in 63 and the 250 shortly after. The union pacific railroad logo is a shield i believe. My great grandfather was a conductor on the Pennsylvania RR after WWII

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
H24 should translate to August (the 8th month) 2nd, 1964.
CON2 means something like conveyor #2. |

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
Can you get any more pics? Maybe some underhood and interior. Its cool to see these trucks in their different variations.

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
That engine is the 292. Has the large side plates. Great engine, lots of torque but can be a gas hog.

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
So I have a 3/4 ton 292 engine 4 speed 1964 Union Pacific Railroad extended cab 2 door standard wheel base 5 foot bed. I have to decide what I am going to do with this truck. I have 3 other projects now 1937 Hudson Teraplan truck a 1941 ford COE an a 37 ford truck. I like this truck but it needs a full restoration. Should it be left stock Or is it better to go nuts on it? I have a cat diesel in a Kodack that has 59k on it and it is 6 k a year to register it in CA. I think it would make a good donor for this truck.

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
IMO, the best thing to do with it is kind of go both ways. what I mean is more of a resto-mod than a restoration, the reason I say this is because in their original form, they arent very attractive or useful ( other than to us purists). but if you made it a 1ton with the cat and dual rear wheels, maybe even bigger if you have a need for it.
a 3/4 ton or 1/2 ton would sell better if you needed to. You can send it to me and Ill build it! hint hint nudge nudge!!!!!!

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
I think you may be right. the cat drive train and a 5th wheel hitch. would save a ton on regustration. I have a shop and some tools. I have done a fue cars. If I keep it I will do it but, if it gos down the road. I could sale the Kodiak and the truck together and finish some of my other projets. I could put them all up for sael and keep what did not sale. I dont wont to be a horder. My girl freind totaly thinks I am. the hudson and the COE are prity far along. I have not started on the 37 ford. The coe will be a good tow rig but this truck with a cat in it would be grate but a lot moor work.

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
I agree with Clyde65...do what you want with the truck. Its an interesting truck and I say have fun with the build. I think it'd be pretty cool w/a diesel in it personally.

Re: Ralroad truck ? one ton?
I soled the 37 ford today. he will pick it up on Saturday. I have a 56 ford for sale as well see witch one go,s first and build what is left. I will have a jump start on the money to build with. I think if the club cab survives the cut I will find a donor with good sheet metal. I am looking at the cat 330 engine in my Kodack diesel I would have to modify the pan and intake to get it in the 64. Dus any one know of any one that has done this swap?
