72 Dropmember Suburban-Alice

My dad picked up this burb to rob the big block out of it. I went over to check it out and the truck has almost no rust at all. I have always wanted to build a suburban so after a little barter with my dad, I now have another project. I showed my wife and she wants me to work on this before I finish my 67 SWB truck, so who am I to argue.

I dont know that I am going to get too crazy with body or engine mods, but I am definately going to have a proterbuilt front and rear drop member kits/ a arms and drop spindles. The truck is 6 lug with disc/drum brakes and I dont plan on changing it. Everything on this truck is original, the engine still had the smog pump on it. I think the interior is going to get new paint and the seats recovered. I am thinking 20 inch rims all the way around. I also want to add front and rear air to it. Anyway, here are pictures of day one.

The third door needs a little work and there is a little bit of a dent in the drivers rear quarter, but other than that it looks really straight and solid.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Was that the one on craigslist for 1950.00? It has a 3 speed on the column? if so that was a good buy. I would of loved to pick a rust free burb up like that but i'm working out of state right now. Its all about timing.

It may have been, he just called me and told me to come check it out.

We got the front clip pulled and the drive train out. May be a week or two before I get a chance to do much with it. Here it is today.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

I got the front suspension out before I have to head out of town this afternoon. Need to get the front frame rails cleaned up and get the firewall painted next.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Got the front frame horns stripped, wire brushed and painted.

While I was doing that, my dad started working on the body.

I am going to try and get the firewall painted before I do much more.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Got the colum out and the rest of the firewall stripped down. Got all the grime off and scuffed and with any luck, it will have paint on it this week.

Also got the seats out and all the trash and floor mats pulled out. It echos in there now.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

I picked up primer and got the paint for the firewall.

Got tired of trying to do everything with the body still on the chassis so we spent the bigger part of the morning taking it off. It was a real job to do.

I started stripping down the chassis and made some good progress before it got to hot. Should have the cross members out tomorrow and with any luck, may get the frame cleaned up and painted.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

My kids have been here all week so I havent gotten to really work on the burb. My dad on the other hand got the body work finished up on the drivers side and the back. It is ready to be blocked. Cant do much on the other side until we can get the body moved over.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Got a little time in the garage and got the notchs made up for the rack and pinion. My rear notches are supposed to be shipped on Friday so I will be busy next week. With any luck I will get the chassis together and get the body set back on it.

I need to figure out how I am going to do the back floor. Obviously I need to cut out a section of the floor and move the inner fenders up just dont know how I am going to do it yet.

If you check out my build thread you can maybe get some ideas from what I did. Mine is the same build as yours (Porterbuilt front and rear).
