Father Daughter 1969 C/10 250 3spd
Well, My daughter turned 16 in Dec. For the last 2 yrs she has been telling me how much she wants an "old Chevy truck". I gave her the typical parent speech about responsibility, getting a job for gas money, maintenance, improvements etc. but i would keep my eyes open for a 67-72 that a 16 yr old could afford. She is very motivated and a hard worker. She has no problem getting her hands dirty and learning. I found a rust free basic, no a/c, drum brakes, 69 on Craigslist and a deal was done for $800.00. Inline 6 did not run and he wasn't sure about the 3 speed saginaw. He threw in a rusty 305with a turbo 350, drive shafts and steering column with power steering gearbox. 305 block was shot needed .060 so scrapped it. I then turned my attn to the 6. New plugs, wires, carb rebuild, cap, thermostat housing, water outlet and a clean gas tank is all it needed to run. Replaced all gaskets and 3 u-joints. Then found new rust free long bed on cl for 200.00. We installed it, stripped the floor of the surface rust and armor bed lined it. Passed emissions, runs and shifts perfect. The project continues but its a great start and a lot of fun sharing with my daughter............just thought id share some pics.... and thank everyone for help and this great site

Looks Great!
Nice to see a young person is interested in something other than X-box. Is A/C next? LOL. |

Re: Father Daughter 1969 C/10 250 3spd
Exactly right on the x-box comment. Just put power steering on it last weekend for her. Yes, A/C will definitely be on the priority list. I have a new 350 short block to mate up with the 350 trans in the garage. I will probably milk the 250 for awhile then replace it and get some sort of A/C set up. I figure if she can drive this 3spd tank with drum brakes, she will be well suited to drive anything her heart desires. I would like her to master this setup first. No A/C in AZ builds character............

That's cool don't see too many father daughter projects like that. I've got twin girls 1 1/2 yr old. Hope to do the same with them when they get older

Re: Father Daughter 1969 C/10 250 3spd
I used "oil eater" Just sprayed it on and let i sit for awhile then scrubbed with green or red 3m pads. I had done the cleaning of the bay before i brought the truck home. I had it at work while i checked it out and got it running and safe. She had no idea that i was working on it for 3 months before I got it home. I had a lifter fail after it had been running fine and some other issues but I am really happy with the results. I sort of cheated her out of the major mechanical part that i did, but thought it wld be too overwhelming. This weekend she will change the oil, check coolant and rotate the tires etc. Should be interesting. Thanks
