Update on Progress of the "Cheesewagon"... - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

It's been a while since I've posted anything about the old Cheesewagon. Since I got it off of Tom in February, I have done some changes and some minor upgrades... Here's a list...

Added Camaro tach & 86 C10 clock to dash cluster(repainted needles while apart
Added Tilt(truck tilt with van PRND21 & steering wheel)
Added Cruise(mostly original parts, some from later model)
Added AM/FM(van, had a Sony AM/FM/cassette)
Added AM/FM/CD in console
Added glove box light
Painted upper portion of console Parchment(was saddle)
Added Parchment visors(were saddle)
Recarpeted cargo area and made new cargo panels(there were none)
Installed rear seat
Temp. fix of rot in 1/4's & rockers...

I will get into it for real later on

Degreased & cleaned motor & chassis. Repainted motor & painted chassis & underhood sheetmetal.
Added underhood "reel" light from 91 GMC
Added winshield washer bottle overflow

I still have to put on the 68' front clip & finish the body work & suspension(bags).

It only skips if you hit a BIG pothole. Normal driving and normal bumps it is fine. The only thing that's a PITA is changing the channel or adjusting the volume.

That tach looks great! What year/model. Don't take this the wrong way, your engine bay looks good but you need to bug bomb the heater housing. Kind of looks unfinished with everything else very finished around it. Just my .02

The old cheesewagon is really starting to come around.. I have that same pioneer cd player in my blazer and it works really well,did you get the remote with that stereo cause if so you can use this infred ste up to change channels and pick songs on cd's...

I don't think that the Pioneer headunit I have has the remote sensor in it(I think the next model up had it) but that is certainly an idea I will entertain in the future!!! As far as the firewall/heater box, ect... I am not touching that until I pull the front clip off to do the 68 swap. I plan on adding factory A/C(front & rear) to it so I will need to do some cutting & welding anyway plus I want to repaint the firewall bodycolor again

When I get into that also, I will be installing a new booster/mastercylinder & proportioning valve along with new stainless hardlines so it should be pretty spiffy

The tach is from a mid-late 80's Camaro and the clock is a quartz unit from a mid-late 80's fullsize pickup. There are a few articles on the forum for installing the tach and the clock was a trial n error deal but it works well. And I do need the motivation, ya looked at how many I have to do?(check my sig!)

Roberty, that is actually a heater control from a 65 or 66 Caprice. You need to do some modifications to the heater cables and you need the bracket off of a truck A/C controller to bolt it in.

Tom, still pluggin' away. I want to pull it off the road soon so I can do what needs to be done but I'm having to much fun driving it! She's a good truck for sure. If I ever decide to part with it, I'lle be sure to let you know first

1928 craftsman bungalow 1700sq/ft, with a 25x45 shop, 12x20 two story guest house and in need of a full rebuild.

How does your cruse work. I have a complet set ready to go in mine. Have not got around to getting it in yet. It is OE with some new parts that a guy had but never got around to installing. I am not going to let this happen to me. Good job on your installs.

If the CC question was directed at me I am no help as the truck is still in the build stage. Mine is an after market kit I bought a year or two ago. It is designed for hot rods or atleast that was the mag that did the install that I saw.

tnblazer - That is one of the boxes you can buy at "Pepboys" or anyother place that sells Kayaks, motorcylcles, BBQ's and just about everything else except autoparts(sorry, still venting on that! They didn't have a Flipping set of plugs for a small block!) Anyway, it cost around $20 for the box, a couple bux for the vinyl dye and about 45 minutes to install. I just made a template of the opening, traced it on the box and trimmed with the dremel. Cut a small hole in the bottom of the console to run the wires out under the mat. I actually got the idea from the blazer board. Don't remember who's it was but I think it was a copper colored one with some nice kickpanel enclosures...

Rokcrln, yeah, I didn't mention the cars or boat at my ol' mans house. Tom(Cheesewagon) has seen them. These still need to be done: 86 Iroc, 3-69 Firebirds, 69 RS/SS Camaro, 70 Bonneville, 66 Catalina, 56 Nomad, 52 Chevy Fleetline, 40 Ford Deluxe sdn and a 52 Shephard 22' Mahogany speedboat. The muscle is mine, the older stuff is my dads. Now, the Sears house is neat. My dad has some of the old catalogs with those houses in them. That's like the ultimate piece to have in your Craftsman collection!

86swb, Believe it or not, I haven't gotten it to work yet(it is all hooked up though!). I have tried but I think my transducer is bad. I tried another and that one just leaked vacumm. Guess it's time to spring for a new one. It will be nice to have it working though! Good Luck on yours!
