gm 350 250hp crate motor, i have a pair of the hooker shorty block huggers but been told the create alot more heat to motor. is anyone else using these headers? any unexpensive recommedation for a 1971?

I bought hedman headers and they fit pretty good and were cheap like 140 I think. My exhaust man says you will never keep any kind of collector gasket on a shorty header. He says the engine torque put allot of stress where the collector is!

have shorty headers on my truck from Sanderson. I love em. Never heard the collector gasket theory on shortys before. But not to worry, Mine dont have any gaskets at all

If inexpensive is what you are looking for try headers by Flowtech (division of Holley). Available at local parts stores like Checker (CSK Auto) for under a hundred bucks. I think I paid 80 or 90 for a pair. If you are worried about your shorty headers heating up the block you may want to consider wrapping them. It reduces heat under the hood significantly (the wrap manufacturers claim a 70% reduction).

I put these on my truck about 3yrs ago cost me $100. and have not had a problem since.I have put 1 set of collector gasket's in durring this time.I allso run a heatshield on the starter
