Starter Problems....

So yesterday my starter started smoking and finally stopped working so i pulled the started and got a new one...... this morning i went out put the starter on and got in the truck and nothing.... still getting power to the dash and all...... how do i test to see if my wires are still getting power? it is a 69 chevy with 350. hei and stock starter...... anything else you can think it would be?
