Roadster Project
This is my 70 4X4 which I converted. I should have started this thread a while ago. Now I have to play catch-up. Some of the pics may be out of sequence so bare with me. Anyhow, here it is.

WOW, you have done a ton of work there. i really like your direction which you are going, althought going from a lifted to a slammed roadster is gonna be quite a difference. But will be a tonne of fun. i have only seen a couple of ppl rake the windsheild back the way you are doing it, usually they just lean the pillars back.If they have done it the way u are doin it they have sunk it in an inch or more to compensate for the lift at the front where the cowl was. but yours looks like it will come out good. I really want to see you finish this one, it will be one hell of a truck.

You are doing some very nice work from the looks of it. If I can only make one suggestion that would be invest in a gas set up for you welder because I have seen that inner shield come back and bite people in the ARSS after paint because of all the impurity's that get trapped in the puddle. Plus it will make your life alot easier for cleanup. But at this point I would have the metal work media blasted and use a good epoxy primmer/surfacer to seal what has been done.
Also I understand what nuke1 is saying about the windshield being sunk on most but with yours having the welded cowl it will blend right in and look sweet! Are your plans to put the latch in the doors or in the A pillar with only the strike bolt ion the door? Keep the pics coming. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Great suggestion on the welder. I will look into that. I was going to lower the windshield but when I placed it in that position when I was mocking-it-up, I didnt like how it appeared to be chopped (I guess the rake plus lowering it). The body looked wide and the windshield looked small, plus I like the sleekness of the transition. To fill some of the transitions my friend it going to lead fill them to keep it all metal. Not too familiar with this method but looks kinda old school. I havent figured the strike as of yet. I'm hoping it will come to me in a vision...
I work on it every day so i will update regularly.

What I would do since you don't have windows and don't need wires running into your door is mount the latch in the A pillar and the strike on the door it self. This keeps everything real clean and then mount some trick door pulls right under the dash so they are out of site but easy to reach for sleek look. I have seen a few done this way and it would flow well with what you have started. I also like doing body solder (todays lead free lead) and it would be a great way to finish off welded seams if you friend is good with it and knows all the tricks.

I'm definately going to watch this one. Your project isn't exactly my cup of tea, however your craftsmanship and motivation are phenomenal. Your also posting a lot of pictures which I like...
Keep it up ?? Are you filling on metal or will you epoxy first ? I'm not sure where you live either so that makes a difference. Guess you don't need epoxy first in California... |

More work today. I finished filling in the driver fender and frenching-in the attachment pockets. I also finished welding the dash into the cowl. I will need to weld where I removed the rubber attachment strip that goes around the door (that I removed) but i'm gonna wait until I figure what I am going to do with the strikes. Also, I have a lot of work re-building the door posts and door panels.
