lovin Lukas oil
Ive had a noisy rocker from the time of my rebuild 1,500mi ago, after a valve adjustment it was still there, I was starting to worry that I had wipped a lobe. Did a oil change yesterday and added a quart of lucas oil additive, the noise is gone , just like that. Im stoked, thought I would share

Re: lovin Lukas oil
Yeah we sell and use Lucas oil and gas additives. Great stuff. I use both in my truck. Plus we still have fun with the little gear thingy. Its hard not to crank it once a day.
Its one product I actually have faith in. |

The power steering pump on the 69 big block truck was leaking (external reservoir) so my buddy says "put some Lucas stop leak in it". I'm like, yeah right, but he finally convinced me and I'll be damned if it didn't quit leaking.. Go figure... good stuff. LockDoc

Re: lovin Lukas oil
No to rain on anyones parade here, but next time you go to the parts stores crank one of the gear things for a while. You will notice LOTS of bubbles.......... this isnt good, its airation of the oil. There was a test of the lucas products on bob is the oil guy at one point i cant find it now.

The transmission additive put a little more life into a slipping turbo 350 in our 83. I'm convinced

Re: lovin Lukas oil
BTOG i am not a fan of.... they rave about Amsoil and it is some of the worst stuff out their.....
Hell, Amsoil publish tests related to oil that are for the wrong kind of oil, tell you they have oil for this and that such as an Allison tranny in a duramax... when in fact that will void your warranty INSTANTLY by using it. If the stuff is so great, why does NO manufacture or builder recommend it |

I don't use AMSOIL, or any synthetic for that matter, but I'm pretty sure that none of the manufacturers are going to recommend a certain oil unless they are getting some kind of payment or deep discount on the products they purchase from them. Maybe AMSOIL just won't play their game?? It almost sounds like you have an axe to grind with AMSOIL... Just an observation. LockDoc

Re: lovin Lukas oil
...and you got this info from where?? They CANNOT void a warranty just because you put AMSOIL in there...they have to prove that the lubricant (whether is was AMSOIL or any other lubricant) caused the failure to deny the warranty claim. You might check out the Magnuson-Moss act.

Actually not a real indication of anything except that a higher vicosity oil will retain more bubbles. The regular oil has bubbles also. The gears on a gear pump will cause that when exposed to the open air. Your pump on your motor will be submerged. Same thing which causes a belt drive to whine. Squishing the air between the gears. The little model means nothing in real world applications Last edited by mbgmike; 03-26-2010 at 01:24 PM. |

Re: lovin Lukas oil
My thing is, keep your oil and filter changed, use synthetic if you so choose (and can afford it), and you'll have probably hundreds of thousands of miles with no problems related to lubrication. As stated above, if an additive helps a problem, you are putting perfume on a pig. You still have the problem; it's just been masked over. If it plugged a leak, it's going to start leaking again at some point.
Sorry to be skeptical, but I just don't see the need, especially with how relatively good the basic oils on the market are these days. I think they're up to SJ, if I'm not mistaken. Every time they go to the next letter, they've improved something with the oil. |

Re: lovin Lukas oil
Yea a standard quart of oil around here is $2.50 per quart. Then on top of that the syntheyic is double or more.

Could not agree more with this statement. Oil additives only mask a hidden problem. But hey if it works for you and your older engine or whatever application you have then by all means go for it.

Re: lovin Lukas oil
I drive a 92 toyota Paseo 1.5L for my daily work beater. It has 265,000 miles on it and runs like a top. I run lucas in it, and heres why. My last beater was a 91 tercel, it started losing a little comp. an burning some oil around 250,000 miles. I started adding 1/2 quart of lucas at every oil change and the oil burning stopped and compression evened out. Sold that one at almost 300K 3 yrs ago, and its still out there running. Lipstick on a pig or not, the problems never returned.

Might want to take a look at the sticky at the top of the Engines and Drivetrain section for the facts regarding API/ILSAC specs and flat-tappet cams...

Lucas oil additive is great stuff! I put it in my old Yota beater and 5 drops in my dirt bike.
