I want to get a tonneau cover for my truck, a 68 short box stepside. Any opinions, recommendations ?

The only hard cover I know of would be gaylords..............on sale now with Central 4 WD

what ever you do get a good one, and never ever drill holes in your truck for the snaps! ugh! if it were me id either get the hard ones, or the powered kind that roll up.

I'm gonna get a soft cover made by a local company, they made one for my brother-in-laws Nissan. I have managed to acquire enough hefty aluminium angle to build a frame that will bolt to the stake holes on the bed and the cover will then be attached by snaps to this, completely reversible but hopefully will help to preserve the bed wood as my truck lives out of doors all year round.

I definately want a soft top, like your idea lippyp, but dont have the aluminum....

Hard covers that hinge, are in the way, and soft ones need drilling in body. But RollTop hard covers are the best. They lock, are hard, and waterproof. And aren't in the way when retracted.

I lOVE the one I bought from LMC. (soft cover)
It's for a LWB.
It's one of the few after-market pieces I bought that actually fit!
No drilling.

hey Dads72, could we get a picture of your tonneau cover. i am also planning on buying a tonneau when i put in my wood bed but i have never been sure exactly what kind i want. a picture of your soft one would help me out a great deal.

dont buy a checkmate fx soft one. i put one on my lwb wide and all it does is flop in the wind, and leak water.

I got mine for my step from chevy duty, it works well and is pretty easy to install. I have only come across a problem with the snaps that come with a screw already in them to put into the bed overhangs and tail gate. They are pretty weak and will break if they don't go in straight. But the snaps are cheap enough that it's not a problem, SHOOT I went to an upholstery shop down the street from my parents house and they gave me a handful!!! For the broken ones I had already predrilled the holes so I just used a rivet as opposed to the screw to replace them.
I have pictures of my cover I just gotta find them. Also, be sure to have a straight tail gate, as it will lead to problems with the wear on the buttons, I lost one already, but since then have "fixed" my gate so there is a little less tension.
