What do you guys think...BB Complete

I have a guy offering to sell me a built 396 complete on the engine stand with reported very low miles...it has a racing type oil pan with an edelbrock intake and carb...he said it was in an ElCamino that he bought from a guy after his kid wrecked it...he said it sounded good with a mild cam...car had an automatic in it...he parted out the rest of the car and kept the engine for another project...wanted to get a box Nova but never got to it...now want to off load the engine to make room in his garage...$1000 and will write a bill of sale stating that if I am not satisfied with the engine he will give me my money back..want can I do identify this engine if at all...all suggestions and comments welcome...

thanks, Ron

Re: What do you guys think...BB Complete

get the casting numbers off the back of engine (passenger side on block where trans bolts up by back of head)
casting number off the block in front of passenger side head
casting numbers off heads (pull valve covers)
