Here is a picture of the booster with brackets. It mounts to the firewall like it is sitting. If no one else posts the a pic of a booster mounted to the firewall I will take one and post it.

I'm trying to see how those brackets would be anywhere near the steering.

I just installed an 72 unit in my 68 and works great. There are pics of mine during the install.

I think the thin one is dual diaphram too. One is a bendix and the other is a delco from the way I understand it. Anyway I have the thin and if jump on the brakes, it feels like my truck is going to flip over! Amazingly the brakes feel pretty balanced too (front to rear).

The pictured one is off a 3/4 ton 70 and older....4 wheel drum. The one you describe is typical of a disc/drum 1.2 ton

See my bracket looks exactly the same but there are 6 bolts on the back instead of 4 so I think im just gonna cut off the bottom 2 and just bolt up the 4 that are susposed to be on and it will fit.

Is that really all you need to do to add power brakes, simply toss a booster in front of the master cylinder?
Can you buy one from an auto parts store, or would it be better to visit the bone yard for one? |

Make sure you grab the rod that connects to the brake pedal too. All I did was grab the whole assy and use the old booster and master cylinder for a core. You can get the master cylinder and booster as a assembly and save you some work. you will have to mfg new brake lines because the master cylinder is so far foward. You can see the ends of my brake lines where they hooked up to the old master cylinder: My truck is a 68 C10 and I got the power brake setup from a junked 72 for $25. Oh , yeah most importantly grab the fittings on the brake lines going into the proportioning valve to save you a headache trying to match up the fittings. Other than that it was a straightforward swap.
