Re: thinking about putting my truck on ebay

I'd make a reserve for sure, but I think you can also have a buy it now. Just depends on how much you want for it and what someone is willing to pay.

Re: thinking about putting my truck on ebay

I'm thinking of putting my truck on there too.

I also recently sold a 98 Trans Am on there. I didn't mess around with the reserve thing (they charge extra for that) and just started the auction at my minimum....that way if one person bids, its sold. BTW, I ended up getting a litle more than what my min. was.

Wait, how much do you want for your truck? And can you give me the specs...me and my dad might just take it off your hands, he wants a short wide so he can be like me...LOL

Re: thinking about putting my truck on ebay

I've had bad luck with the buy-it-now option. It seems people want to get on there and hit the buy it now option with no intention of paying. then it screws your whole auction. The guy that screwed up mine contacted me through email wanting personal information like phone number and address. I ended up selling the car to a guy from ebay that had contacted me asking questions. There's a truck on there right now (68 White step from KS) that had to be relisted because of the buy-it-now abuse. I wouldn't bother with the reserve either just because I don't like bidding on things with reserves. set your minimum bid around (maybe even a little under) what you would take for the truck and hope the bidding war begins.

Re: thinking about putting my truck on ebay

Anytime I do escrew I do either a no reserve with a decent starting bid and if it dosen't meet what I need it to I will pull the auction. I have seen folks fight to the death over stuff just to say they WON. It's good when your the seller..

Re: thinking about putting my truck on ebay

I've seen this truck and it is very solid. Matter of fact, the first time I saw it I left a note asking if it was for sale! It's probably a good thing that it wasn't at the time, because I really didn't need any more trucks.

Re: thinking about putting my truck on ebay

I would go with a reserve and no "buy it now". Although I haven't personally had this problem, I have heard lately that there are a lot of 0 feedback idiots that just end your auction with buy it now then don't pay. Then you have to go through the process of verifying that the bidder did not come through to get your listing fee and final value fee back, which total $100.

If you set a reserve an start your bid low, it will get bid up to whatever people want to pay for it. If it gets close to what you want for it you can send the high bidder a "second chance offer" to buy that can be any amount up to and including your reserve amount (not just the amount of the high bid). This way you are at least able to contact some interested parties for the money you spend.

If you don't set a reserve and just make your opening bid what you want for the truck, you run the risk of nobody bidding on it. If nobody bids on it you have nobody to make an offer to.

Lately I have been putting a reserve and a low starting price, then just saying what the reserve is in the auction. That way interested people can bid on it and I have a chance to offer it to them later if I want.

Re: thinking about putting my truck on ebay

I would ask for a deposit within 24 hrs after the auction to cover your auction fees. If they don't pay it relist it or give second chance offers to the next highest bidders. I am currently waiting to hear from a person on one of my auctions that ended Tues.. bogus email address and no contact seems like a scammer to me. I'll have to give second chance offers I 'm afraid.. I did the reserve thing. it was 5.00

Buy it now opens it up for the "pay with an over amount fake money order or cashiers check scammers"

Re: thinking about putting my truck on ebay

I would do the reserve thing, it is definately worth the money to protect the auction, then put the stated reserve in listing,

Re: thinking about putting my truck on ebay

Please read the forums rules regarding buying and selling. This thread has violated the rules in many ways. First off it is ok to ask how to use ebay, however, it is not acceptable to post a picture of your truck trying trying to get leads on selling it. Post had been edited and you should have your answers on how to use ebay. If this occurs again it is a bannable offense. It's not fair to those that support the site in order to buy and sell to allow it to be a free for all.
