Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
Fake SPID and regular screwed in VIN plate for $19K.....it's tempting LOL...no but seriously its a nice truck otherwise, just don't know the original configuration and those two red flags would make me pass on this even if I was interested.
I wonder how many people buy trucks like this and never even know... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-C-...US_Cars_Trucks

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
trouble is it's a very nice, non-original, light-custom, truck in great shape. The vin plate being screwed on kinda irks me, but I guess the painter/PO was dead-set on no tape lines and didn't have a rivet gun handy... Who knows.
The S10 wheel and giant cowl hood are the two biggest turn-off's to me. |

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
I didn't do any deep digging, but by just searching "Chevrolet CST LWB".....I see many hits of other trucks claiming to be CST's with LWB.

CST is not limited to short wheelbase trucks.

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
CST was a trim package. You could get it on a C/30 with 157" wheelbase. Is that a Canadian color, I guess? Eh...an '88 engine ain't no Vortec. Is the SPID a re-made one or did Canada use a different font? It looks older and why would they put the tool & stowage door on there if it wasn't going back? It doesn't list the "Canadian equipment", though. My second guess is it was redone years ago, then recently freshened up. The screws in the VIN-plate flat out won't fly. Could get someone arrested. It was dumb to even show that picture on the internet

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
Yeah I forgot to mention the vortec thing, it's got vortec heads but a 1988 certainly ain't a vortec engine.
I too noticed the SPID does look older, but to my knowledge they never used that font.

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
Thats a nice enough truck but I agree with most of the comments.
To me that's about a $6500-$7500 truck....and it needs a new hood to replace the beehive thing on there...and that is one long radiator hose. My two bits. Coley

. . . .
Below, are three Canadian SPID's from a 70, 71 and a 72. They all have the same font as all originals should. The last, burry, picture is a "blown-up" of the one in question. . . . . |

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
I think my second guess is the better one. I bought a blank SPID from Cheyenne Superman in 1990 and he said IBM typewriters have the correct font. My point is, that SPID could be a reproduction for 25 years ago. Maybe they eliminated the tool & stowage door this last time around. Now, about that color. it may be the green offered on Canadian trucks, but it wasn't offered on US-built trucks. so, is it factory, or did they leave "Canadian Base Equipment" off on the re-do?
It's a good thing they also painted the original hood because that huge cowl induction hood belongs on a drag truck

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
Looks to me like that VIN is from Baltimore, not Oshawa.

All the SPIDS I've seen out of Oshawa have the number in the top right corner too. Seems to be a "Canadian thing".

That's a Canadian green. I had one the same colour & there's another locally to me the same colour from the looks of it.

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
It's a very clean truck throughout. The screwed on VIN tag bothers me. I don't see this truck as fraud, just more like a non professional restoration job.

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
My SPID has the same font and it looks like it has been there for a long time as well. I had the options verified by GM Canada's Vintage Vehicle Services and the SPID content was correct. One possible explanation is that the original may have been lost between tha factory and the dealer and the dealer had typed a new one. On an old truck I would rather see a SPID that looks the same age with questionable font than a new SPID with authentic font. I would be dubious of the screwed on vin plate though.

It looks to me like the SPID says Tool & Storage box instead of Tool & Stowage Box..... LockDoc

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
Also, if it's a Canadian truck....why does the SPID say printed in USA ?
I did a quick search and all the Canadian SPID's I found just briefly didn't have "printed in USA" on them. Maybe the more knowledge can chime in on this comment.

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
Human error could very easily account for the "storage" vs. "stowage". The vin plate is what will cause a problem with registration, inspection, etc...not a sticker.

Re: Fake SPID ebay listing - not mine
I’m not buying or selling, but am compelled to comment:
Quote:
Quote:
Agree. Just because the truck has the Canadian content RPO Z49 doesn’t mean it had to have been built in Oshawa. Orders are assigned to the different plants using multiple criteria, including cab/box configurations and powertrain options or other option content that may only be built at certain facilities. Geographic proximity to the selling dealership or ultimate customer is not the highest priority. Having said that it would be conceivable to see Z49 content on a truck from Flint, Pontiac, Baltimore or even Fremont. Similarly, any one of those plants could have built a vehicle with K19 California emissions. My Chevelle, which we ordered, was built in Oshawa for US consumption. Conversely I've built trucks in Flint and Pontiac that had RPO Z49. I think all this conversation about Oshawa is a distraction and is serving to confuse the issue. Quote:

We have a saying here at work: “At Chevy – you don’t make a mistake; you make a million of ‘em”. (lol) My summary: I don’t like the looks of that font. I do like the way the aging of the label seems to match the vintage of the truck. My $0.03. K
