Re: flame throwers need help with hei for flames help

I'm not sure if I understand the question, but I'm assuming you're trying to get an HEI to work. You need 12 volts at the BAT connection on the cap. The stock wiring has 6 volts going to the distributor, so you'll have to do a little wiring. The coil in in the distributor cap. If you have 12 volts to the BAT terminal and the other terminal from the distributor is plugged into the cap, and the timing is right, it should fire right up.

Re: flame throwers need help with hei for flames help

usually the ignition system is shut off after revving up the motor. When you shut off the ignition, the spark plug in the tail pipe is supposed to ignite and burn the unburnt fuel as the motor freewheels before it comes to a stop. Eventually you switch the engine ignition back on and the motor fires back up. Mike, it sounds like you aren't killing the engine's ignition system and it's still burning the majority of the fuel and none of it's shooting out the tail pipe.

.... Or you could just seriously fatten up the AF mixture by going with larger jets in the front and back. You arent going to make any friends with the EPA but Ive heard of people doing this to achieve what you want.

i used to do this with my 77 step side, with full 3" dual exhaust.

nothing cooler than cruising under a bridge, turning off the key, coasting, then turning it back on with a BANG!

Re: flame throwers need help with hei for flames help

had a home made kit on my 49 coupe pretty cool althought that lil 6 wouldt shoot 6foot flames. be prepaid to change your oil pretty often deppending on how much you do this. some of the unburnt gas will get down in the oil an wash the cylinder walls, and can mess up a perfectly good engine. good luck.
