Original truck color?

According to the original sales slip from that 87 V10 the factory color was "29/90 blue/gray. What does the 29/90 mean? Does this specify how the two tone was done? (as in was the second color along the bottom or in the center) Eventually It has since been painted all blue, which I like but I would like to return it to its original color eventually.

Re: Original truck color?

After posting this I did a little looking around and found out that the "29/90" refers to the color codes. So now my question is: Is there anyway to find out where the second color originally was? Was it based on model?

Re: Original truck color?

Here is an 87 I had last year, same color combo. The grey is like a steel/charcoal color, not silver.

Re: Original truck color?

It deciphers as 29U ("upper", or primary color) and 90L ("lower", or secondary color).

You have to know the two tone paint scheme (ZY2, ZY3, ZY4 or ZY5) in order to know if it was top/bottom, or inset.

Re: Original truck color?

That is exactly that I was looking for. "Special two-tone paint".....ZY3.....Paint code-29U......So, the ZY3 code means that from the black center molding up was one color and below the black molding was another. The 29U means that the blue was the upper color, which makes the gray the lower color. Thank you for the info.
Now I am curious what "23 W XDD1 Blue" means. Any ideas?

Yah. It's the interior combination (color plus trim type/level). Blue "custom" vinyl bench.

Look on the chart I gave you, in the section above the highlighted area.

Re: Original truck color?

Is there any info for 88 - 91 R/V series? The '88 catalog only shows GMT400 trucks.

My '88 crewcab was a red / white two-tone (red overspray in the jambs and under the hood) but was sprayed solid white at some point before I got it.

Re: Original truck color?

I agree; a glaring oversight, in my opinion.

This collection of brochures has '88 - '91 R/V truck info:

http://brochures.slosh.com/index.shtml?1988

For technical input (weights, ratings, option availability) you can still use the '87 GM Heritage Center archive generic information:

https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf

In fact, most of the time when I am getting parts for my truck I lie and tell them it's an '86 C/K, to avoid confusion.
