Fender patch panel?

I'm on to my 3rd passenger side fender, and now all of 3 of the ones i have are beyond some repair in the front corner, i know they make a patch for this, but has anyone who has used have success with it, and recommend it?
Thanks!

Arrow Re: Fender patch panel?

I have put on a few of those front fender patch panel's and put one on my current 67 c10 , the panel itself is good quality it's good thick metal and is a must have part BUT
it is about a 1'' to 1'' 1/2 to short front to back , the first one I put on I just alighned it at the fender lip and welded it on but it make's it hard to fit up front near the bumper , the one I put on my 67 this time I just cut it in half and added the length to it and welded it on to fit at the front and at the fender lip , doing it like that you can't tell it looking at it ,

IF I DO ANOTHER the best way would be to buy two of them and them apart to make one the correct length being tricky on your cut's so it will weld back together well ,

I recomend it because it save's an original fender , it's just like every other repro part it's something to work with ! the rocker's the FRIKin&^%$*( repro tailgate's , the cab corner's , it just take's a lot of work to get them to fit ,,,
I will look here to see if I took any pic's ??? don't remember

Re: Fender patch panel?

I too have done a few in the past....And i also had to pie cut mine and add about an 1/2 inch to the middle to get the lines correct.....As 19673ontree stated it takes a little work to get it just the way it should be,and IMO its best to start at the lip... i think by doing the lip first the lines are easier to see....Where it should and where the front meets up...

Re: Fender patch panel?

looks like a good amount of custom work... i have very little welding experience (im only 18) and am still learning the whole process. i guess it will be some good experience learning, and getting a bit of "custom" work lol

True, I'm only 17 and getting the hang of it, good thing to know how to do on these trucks.
