A/C Fiberglass

I'm checking to see if anyone has run across this before and what did you do. I am rebuilding my stock A/C and when I scrubbed the dirt off my original fiberglass evap housing the two halves were different colors (they looked just fine with all the road grime on!) See first pic. I had purchased another evap housing because I knew I would have to replace the tin plate on mine from rust, so I dug that unit out and it also has two different color halves (second pic). I may just assemble it that way since that is how it came from the factory but I thought I'd check in here to see what others may have run across. Thanks in advance.

Re: A/C Fiberglass

I have gone through tons of them and they have always been matched sets. On the rare occasion that they didn't match it was that the drivers side case halve had been swapped. I would be willing to believe that the ones you have were swapped sometime in their lives.

Re: A/C Fiberglass

Thanks for that. I doubt the units were exchanged as the original rivets held both together. The picture on top is my original A/C unit and I have had that truck for about 25 years. I know the history of it pretty well. The second picture is also an original unit that had the original rivets holding it together. Those rivets are mild steel and it be very hard to duplicate the assembly so perfectly. I will assemble my unit with aluminum rivets which buck very easily.

Re: A/C Fiberglass

What I meant was that the driver's side case half may have been damaged and someone replaced it. Its held on by 8 screws. No rivets on that side.
