My first offical "splurge" for a part.

Well, everything on my truck has been budget up to this point. I have worked hard to pinch penny's until I found this. I am having the year put on the heart banner and the trucks name "Daisy" under the girl.

This is hand painted and it was $85. It replaces the fire hazard Edelbrock foam filter that's on there now and it fits the look I'm going for on the truck. I have some cleaning to do under the hood now because this will so good when it's all done!

Pics to follow in a week or so. It should be here some time next week.

Re: My first offical "splurge" for a part.

Sorry, I thought I posted a link, my bad. I got it from www.joeyfinz.com He has an ebay store and had it posted, but he ended the auction early. I told him I would give him $85 for one (my esnipe was set at $85) so he asked me what I wante on the banners.

He posted a buy-it-now auction for me and it's a done deal. I'm stoked!

Pretty cool. What type of fastner will you use to secure it to the carb?

Re: My first offical "splurge" for a part.

I have no idea what I'll use as a nut. The auction was just for the lid, so I need to buy a 12" air cleaner. If I don't have anything cool, I will make something.

Re: My first offical "splurge" for a part.

I use a website called www.esnipe.com You buy bid points for $.01 per point then set up a bid. I just buy $10 or so at a time and it's 1 point per $1 of the winning bid, but you only pay if you win.

I say it's worth it, I've been using it for over a year. The penny's it costs me is worth the dough I've saved. I also use it to control my spending. Just set my max bid and forget about it. It keeps me from spending a lot more than I would on parts and stuff.

Re: My first offical "splurge" for a part.

Thanks, it was the coolest one I've seen too. I will be sure to post some pics once I get it. I will be spending the weekend cleaning up the engine a bit. I need to install my new valve covers and plug wire looms that have been sitting in a box for the past month.

Now if I can just settle on some headers and get the new exhaust done, my truck will be looking very close.

I am now getting the 8 ball shift knob to complete the look. The interior is next on the list, so I might as well start there.

Re: My first offical "splurge" for a part.

He said he had troubles with the website, but it should be back up and going soon. There were a lot of blank pages when I went there.

He said he can paint anything, I was first looking at the Rat Fink stuff he did, but the devil girl was perfect. The year and truck name sealed it for me, it made it worth the cost for sure.

Re: My first offical "splurge" for a part.

Very cool lid and a great connection for neat stuff on the Joey Finz site.

Regarding your sniper software. If you went it and put your max bid on ebay early in the auction, wouldn't it get the same results? If I find an item that doesn't offer a buy it now I put in my max bid and let ebay do the rest.

Re: My first offical "splurge" for a part.

On ebay, it sor of works that way, but yo uwill find people that will wait until the last few minutes, then bid $1 over and over until they top you.

Scenario: This air cleaners current bid is $50. I place a proxy bid with ebay for $100, so now I'm the high bidder at $51, right? Now jackass #1 bids $60, $75, $90. I'm still high bidder at $91 (still with me?). Then with a minute left, he bids $105, now I lose out and he won at $101.

Here's where the esnipe comes in. I set a snipe bid of $100. The current bid is still $50. Jackass #1 bids up and sits as high bidder at $51 (his proxy bid is $60, right?). 6 seconds left to go in the auction, esnipe fires with a bid for $100 for me, the auction closes and I am high bidder at $61. I pay esnipe $.61 and pay $61 for the air cleaner.

I then use the $38.39 I saved to buy beer to enjoy after I install my new air cleaner. Ebay is about time, not like a traditional auction format where yo ubid until someone gives up. You can either play the game by the rules, or lose to people who know how to play.
