Sound deading question
My cab is getting it's make over at the body shop and I'll have it back soon. My question is since I'm using fatmat do I still need to run the factory black pads up on the firewall under dash area. Just trying to get everything ordered so I can get my cab back together when it's back at home. Thanks for any help!

Re: Sound deading question
You do not HAVE to, but more insulation in that area can help keep the engine bay heat where it belongs.

Re: Sound deading question
I think it would help keep the heat out and the cold air in if you have a/c. I think it really depends on what look you want.

Re: Sound deading question
Take a look at my build thread. Just did this. Fat Mat + Aluminized closed cell foam + MLV (Mass Load Vinyl) + Carpet insulation + Carpet.

Re: Sound deading question
Remember, Fatmat and like products do not block sound, they dampen vibration. If you want to block sound, you need to use Mass Loaded Vinyl. Also, you only need to put the mat on 20-40% of the metal area to get the desired effect.
The science behind all this can be read on this excellent website, to which I have no connection but to which I owe my peace and quiet: http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ |
