Road trip So CAL to TX

I might be driving (towing) a car to Houston TX from Riverside CA. I have a full size chevrolet with and empty bed there and back. On the way back I might have an empty trailer.(Unless I find something along the way) that my wife would kill me for later. Anyway if anyone needs something going there or back from TX , and its on my way let me know..
I plan to leave Thursday 1/29 and be back by Sunday. From Huston we will drive to Dallas for the day, I have family there, then right back home.

Here's a bump for you in case someone may not have seen it.

But, wow! A four day trip from California to Houston and back and towing a trailer? And you plan to visit Dallas for a day? That's got to be over 3,000 miles round trip if I remember correctly. Took me over 2 days to get there in my car. I did spend one night in Albuquerque. I averaged about 55-60 miles and hour with the rest stops and eating, etc.

Are you sure you have the dates right?

good luck I have made the trip many times, I moved from Chino CA to San Antonio TX. I left my baby back in Chino and now I am looking for a new home for her. Good luck on the road.

I forgot to mention that I got my Dad and Brother in law going with me. We plan to each drive until we are tired while one of us sleeps in the back
We have made that trip once before, from Riverside to dallas,I guestimate that we'll be back late Sunday night. But come to think of it We might leave Wednesday afternoon instead, and just in case I will ask for Monday off as well.

Which highway are you taking into houston? 290 and 45 are my turf (You'll take 45 from Houston to Dallas I'd bet though)

I'm taking the 10 trough San Antonio, then you are right most likely the 45 to Dallas ( if I'm not mistaken its a straight shot)

Make sure you hit up Rudy's BBQ on 10 and close to SA if your there around lunch. You'll have to do some searching online to get the exact address, but it's closer to the New Braunsfels area. Just about the best damn BBQ in central Texas. Just don't tell them it's your 1st time if they ask.

45 is a straight shot to DFW, your right. Watch for cops in huntsville, but if your heading up 45 at night, it's pretty safe to cruise at around 70-80. In my 17 years of Houston to dallas trips, we've only been pulled over once, and my mom pulled the "My brother is a cop" card and got out of it.

If your heading that way saturday, give a wave at Tom Peacock Cadillac on 45, that's where I'll hopefully be finishing the CST10 for the road.

Make sure that the wheel bearings on the trailer are freshly packed and I think I would carry a spare set and the tools to change them. There are some long lonely stretches through there that are a long way from a parts house.

That brought back some bad memories for me man, lookin' in the side mirror and seeing smoke coming out of the trailer wheel well. have to unhitch and find a parts store in the nearest town, make sure you buy a chisel and file cuz you welded the race to the frickin' spindle!! Boss on the phone yelling at you for not doing routine maintenance. Makes me shiver all over.

Thanks for the advice mr48chev I will do it this weekend. I also have some maintanance I'm planning to do for my truck ( oil change filters etc) I'm still not sure if I will use my trailer or get one from UHaul, it would only cost $200 for 4 days so I figured its probably cheaper than wearing out the tires on my trailer.

Texanidiot25, a few years ago I was in Frisco TX. some of the folks there recomended that I go to another BBQ place, I want to say its more like a small chain of reastaurants I want to say the name was like Charlie Brian's or something like that.. I predict I will gain at least 3 lbs on my trip, You Texans can sure BBQ
