Check out my new air breather

With my truck in getting rockers and cab corners replaced, I got bored on Saturday so decided to give my batwing air breather a coat of paint. The color is a 1966-67 GM color Marina Blue Poly with three coats of clear. I plan to paint the truck the same color. The flags are for the deck lid on a 1960 Impala.

Was planning to add some pinstriping, but now I'm not so sure. Your thoughts?

Sometimes less is more and I think it looks awesome without the stripes.

I would leave it exactly like that. Great idea, very classy looking.

Re: Check out my new air breather

I wouldn't pin stripe it. If you're skilled enough maybe those three vertical raised lines, but I wouldn't make it any busier, it looks nice as it is.

Love the color. Always liked those style of intakes.

Like others, I'd forgo the stripe. Flags were a nice touch.

Makes me wonder if that's the color my truck is painted. Looks very close.

No. The engine is Chevy Orange with Cal Custom finned valve covers. Otherwise, there's nothing special under the hood. Have new inner fenders painted gloss black and going to do some general cleaning and sprucing up when I get that far.

Re: Check out my new air breather

I'd lose the cheesy emblem and add some subtle white stripping. Very cool style.

Edit: if the engine is pretty stock and clean looking I'd be tempted to do the breather semi gloss black with maybe some striping (orange, blue, white?)

I love these breathers, I like the cross flags addition. I have one myself painted to match the truck. Will be super happy when I get mine done.

GM used these on mid-50s Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles. More recently, the rat rodders started putting using them. As they grew in popularity, a few companies started making replicas. I bought mine from Speedway Motors all set up to sit atop a Holly four-barrel.
