1966 C20 327 Original Engine Question

Hey Guys, I just sold my 69 C20 and am picking up a 66 C20 in a couple days. I only have one engine bay pic for now but will snap more once I have the truck. It's supposed to be original 327 and TH400. Any specifics you can gather based off this picture? I know there were some different carbs that came on these, does this look correct for the engine? Thanks!

Re: 1966 C20 327 Original Engine Question

I'm just going based off this picture too. Looks like the drivers valve cover and head have some teal green on them.

Did Rochester 4GC's come on these?

Yep, looks original to me. I would say it more than likely has the power assist steering also.

Awesome, that's all good news. Where on the TH400 are the numbers to check?

Re: 1966 C20 327 Original Engine Question

Looks correct for a truck 327 turbo 400. Has the electric kickdown power wire coming out and down from the firewall grommet in middle that goes to the kick down switch on the drivers side of carb. Only turbo 400 had that. For numbers the block number stamped on the engine pad front passenger side of engine will end in YH for the 327/turbo 400 coded block. The tranny will have an aluminum tag if it is still there on the transmission side with serial number and build month/year for these early turbo 400's. Mark

The carb number should be 7025125 from the carb tag

Re: 1966 C20 327 Original Engine Question

YH engine stamp matching the protect-o-plate and 66 TH400 matching the M49 on the protect-o-plate. Not seeing a tag on the Rochester, are there any other areas on it where numbers would be stamped?

Re: 1966 C20 327 Original Engine Question

Good eye on the Fremont, CA build. Extra plumbing for that pvc system should mean no" engine conversion" from the Fremont factory. If the original seat is there it may have a build sheet attached to the spring frame.

Re: 1966 C20 327 Original Engine Question

I am trying to build a restored version of that exact power team removed from a 66 C20 and detailed into a 66 c10 short fleet.
