Re: drum brake removal

If the pads have worn into the drums, they can prevent removal. Have you tried the ebrake adjustment pin. Adjusting them in will pull the pads in and may release the drum.

Re: drum brake removal

Stupid question but did you back off the adjuster?

Soak around the lug studs with penatrating oil.

Re: drum brake removal

I was in this same predicament with my '67 when I first bought it. The pads were down to the rivets and they had worn grooves into the drum. I just kept at it with a hammer, and prybar, knowing I was replacing everything anyway. I finally got it to break free, ended up replacing the drums (about $40), pads (15 or so) and a new spring set with all the hardware ($20) and now she's good as new.

Re: drum brake removal

you can also grind/drill etc the heads on the hold downs on the backing plate. That way the shoes and hardware will collapse and the drum will come right off.

Re: drum brake removal

It is probably stuck where the drum fits over axle hub. Soak with WD40 or the like and then hit on axle hub to jar it loose.
