I have a 67 chevy pickup with a 4.5 inch drop in front and a 6 inch drop out back. I have broken two carrier bearings in the last four months and i just broke another one. is anyone else having this problem?

I went through the same thing last summer. i had two different shops look at my truck and neither one found the true problem. I took it to a drive line shop and they discovered that my shaft was to long. I chose to have a new one built and have not had a problem since. The new type of carrier bearings are nothing less than junk. You may want to consider having a one piece drive shaft made and be done with it once and for all. Good luck.

I agree, the bearings are junk. I went with a one pc. drv shaft, thats the way to go. I tried them from most of the auto parts stores and even the chevy stealership, but alas they were all the same looking junk, probably made in india, and came unglued rather quickly. good luck

I just recently broke my first one.. If it happens again I too will go with a 1 piece drive shaft... eliminate the problem all together.

My truck is a long bed so i dont know if a one piece is a good (cheap) option, im sure its possible but that would be a pretty long driveshaft, and you would probably have to make room where the existing carrier bearing goes. I just called Classic Performance parts and ordered one of their Billet ones, we will see if that works.

How about some pictures of your setup? How much HP do you have? Several companies sell heavy duty carrier bearings for our trucks.

It doesnt have alot of power, its just a throttle body 350. But ive got a cammed 5.3 thats about to go in it that will have more power so im gonna need something better. hopefully the billet one will hold up better, but im sure i have an angle problem that i need to check out.

I was having the same problem when i first got my truck. The guy at the drivshaft shop told me that my truck being so low there wasnt any room for the shaft to slide foward in the trand like is does when the rearend goes up. To solve the problem he put a slip yoke in the back part of the shaft like a
4X4 has an i haven broke one yet. Those that live in socal i used a guy in Azusa he put all new yokes an the slip yoke an ballanced it an painted it all for $175

The truck was lowered with a 327 and a powerglide in it, Then i swapped those out for the 350 and a 700r4 (my first engine and tranmission i ever built by myself!!) and when i did that i had the shaft shortened to fit, so i dont think length is the issue. Maybe just weak bearings?

I had that dude set up my stuff on my burb. He's a cantankerous coot, but smart and know's his stuff on the old truck drivelines. Especially on the 4x4 drive shaft stuff! Though once he figures out what you want, he gets pretty easy going and quick to pick up what you are looking for him to do.

His work far out weighed his price, and I walked away thrilled!

I highly recomend him as well.

if everything is in line, then power levels shouldn't matter.
A one piece on a LWB is going to be very expensive if you want it done right. Most shops will tell you to get lost when you ask.
I've never had the type of bearing that everyone complains about, but I heard ppl on here say to weld the frame of the bearing... the body... and it'll hold up.

With a lowered truck a slip joint is the way to go.

I had the same issue with my truck I puchased a lowrider drive line kit fronm this guy http://mountaindriveline.com/aboutusmtn.htm

it went in easy and I had not had an issue since.

this is pretty much the same set up as inlands.
