Hey Guys I,am Wanting To Install A 9" Ford Rear End In My 1971 Chevy Truck. What Is The Best Doner Vehicle To Get A 9" From. I, Got A Set Of 2.47 Ratio Gears For It Which I Need For Doing My Cummins 4 Bt Swap To Keep The Rpm,s Down. Diesels Turn Half Of A Gas Engine In Rpm,s.

I used one from a 1975 lincoln Continental. I think 67-78 have rear disc, and they generally are 3.00 gears.

You want one that has the 31-spline shafts for sure. If you get one with Torino-style housing ends you can swap Explorer 8.8 discs onto it. Most of the late 70s 1/2s have 3.50s in them.

with john on this one. plus they are already 5 on 5 lug pattern. Not sure about the width.

I Want One Out Of A Ford Truck, Its A More H/d Housing. And I Agree 31 Splines For Sure. Guess I,ll Send It To Moser And Have It Cut To Width If Its Too Wide But Surely A Ford Truck And A Chevy Truck Are Real Close To The Same Width. Moser Can Drill The Bolt Pattern On 5x5 Too. Rear Drum Brakes Are Fine For My Application. Thanks For The Imput Guys. The More Minds The Better.

A heavier duty housing.......You must be joking right?
Its your choice, but why would you invest money in shortening a housing, when for less money you could have the lincoln with disc brakes?

I think I have to agree with the comment about the 'heavier duty housing' comment. But you also gotta consider what the intentions are. Is he wanting to pull something out of a donor and slap it under his truck, or have whatever he finds professionally built?

Around here the Versailles and Mark IV are getting more and more difficult to find. Also, if I'm not mistaken most came with 29 splines.

Yes 28 spline.......I guess I kinda take for granted how easy these lincoln rears are to find. As far as the versailles goes, even the junk yard owners are pulling them before the cars hit the yard anymore. I understand why, you can sell them all day long for $500+ to the 67-9 camaro guy's

Most of the ford 9s from the lincolns are sitting behind a ford 460 big block.....

Also, these rear ends are the same width as the 71-72 chevy truck rear ends, and they are 31 splined, 5 on 5 lug.

I have installed a 9" from a '66 Bronco. Its the small end bearing version, hopefully it will hold up under mild abuse. I choose that rear-end mostly for its width of 58.75", which will allow me to tuck 20x10s with only 3" of backspacing. For me, big lips are the bomb

I didn't look for a Lincoln 9" but my understanding is that you will be really fortunate to find one at all...

You see Banks 4x turbo cummins.....that thing raps 11,000 RPM, Its insane.

The 1600HP/3500TQ isnt bad either.

AROUND here lincoln rears go for big bucks. i,am gonna go the truck 9" h/d route and have moser do the machine work and probably go the 385.00 for a set of 31 spline new axles. thanks guys for all the imput. the more minds the better.
