Shock absorber recomendations

Anybody got any good or bad experiences with shocks for a '70 C-10 coil spring truck? I see RockAuto has a Monroe for $10/wheel. I like the idea of being able to change all 4 shocks for $65 shipped, but don't want to get crappy ride and handling out of the deal.

Further info, the truck is my daily driver. Stock ride height. Rarely tow with it, and only haul anything heavy a couple times a year.

BTW, they've also got Moog rear coil springs for $75 a set + shipping.

I am interested in some recommendations on this topic also. I think I am due for a set of shocks.

I've had excellent service from KYB Gas-A-Just shocks which contrary to their name, are not adjustable. They are a bit firmer than OEM and have great rebound control. The ride will soften up a tad with use but they retain good control (they don't get mushy). And they're reasonably priced for a high-quality shock, but you won't get them for $10 each. In fact, at that price you probably won't be happy and they won't last long. I remember buying cheap shocks from Sears once and I returned them -- they were very soft & floaty.

I have also heard good stuff about Monroe Sensa-Tracs.... I just haven't owned them.

Kyb will be the way to go they are more money but well worth it in my book

I put on a set of NAPA branded shocks a few years ago, the ride improved, but its still bouncy. I'm sure I need to replace the 40 year old springs though. I have used KYB with my wife's cougar and am very pleased with them. Their customer service is very good also.

About twelve years ago I bought some Gabriel gas shocks from AZ. I think they were about twenty five, or thirty dollars each at the time. Decent shocks, but the best part is whenever they start to feel worn, I get them replaced for free on the lifetime warranty.

Here's the meat of it--I was going to put GR-2's all the way around, but they are not available for the rear coil spring truck:

The guy said their recommended OE replacement for a '70 rear with coil springs is KG5416 Gas-A-Just, because the coils do not support as much weight as a leaf spring set up. The Gas-A-Just has a damping rate close to the original, and is about 10% firmer than the GR-2 (the GR-2 has been renamed "Excel G" and is painted black, but is otherwise the same shock. Just a name and color change). So, a slightly stronger shock is desired.

He said there will not be a difference in ride quality or characteristics if we choose to put Excel G's on the front and Gas-A-Justs on the rear...

I put KYB gr-2s on my K20 and real happy with them. Had the regular Gas-adjusts on the rear of my chevelle and they were a bit too firm, and many said the same about the ride on their trucks.
