My sons dropmember C10 build
My 13 year old son is off and running on his second build. This one will take a while mainly due to funding. But there is a ton of work to be done while he gets his money together.
The truck he bought is put together out of bits and peices of other trucks some Chevy and some GMC wich does not bother me any.In the end if the plan stays like it is now it will have a 67/68 chevy front clip"we have both the chevy and the GMC". The start of this project is a 1970 cab with a mild chop and laidback windshield.A local automotive painter started the project and passed away before finishing it. The rest of our parts list so far is as follows. Porterbuilt extreme front and rear dropmember's with all the other goodies they offer.Order has been placed!!!!!! Willwood brakes front and rear. 20x8.5 front and 22x9.5 rear wheels The rear tire is a 285/40 and I hope its not to tall. This tire is a monster. We plan on running a LS engine but with a carburator. Thats what we know we are doing for now the rest will play out as we go along. A few pics of what we are starting with. |

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
We decided while we are waiting on suspension it would be a good time to start roughing in body panels. Then once the chassis is together we can do one final test fit then do the final prime and block and shoot paint.
Tyler got the hood down to metal and I welded up the emblem holes, did the bodywork on the top side, primed and blocked it with 220.The bottom i primed and left alone until the hood hinges get here so i know what has to happen to mount them. |

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
Right now I just have the axle sitting on the frame and the front on the bump stops. It is about 6 inches at the front of the cab pinch weld and 7 at the rear of the pinch weld.
With the porterbuilt X-member and rear notches I am hoping for a ride height measured at the same points of 5 front and 5.5 rear then on to the ground from there. |

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
I hope it turns out well and makes a very well rounded truck. Time will tell I guess.
As for what trans we are going to run, well I get picked on about it almost every day. I built a full manual TH350. I can play with rear gear to get my interstate RPM where I want it and then if its a little doggy down low I will just spray it enough when the need calls. |

Re: My sons dropmember C10 build
Boy am I in a pickle,I do believe Porterbuilt is about ready to start making my dropmember and I am starting to think coilovers may be the way to go and just have a static height.
Only thing is I want it low.Lol They can do the extreme with the coilovers and we will have a 5 inch ride or we can go with the touring and have 6-7 inch height.I like how the touring places the motor lower because it will give more room and be less work with the tunnel, not to mention plumbing and wiring. The more aggressive geometry peaks my interest to . But 6-7 inches is just not low enough and if I am going to have to move the tunnel I think I will just hammer it on the ground with bags. Heck I just do not know. |

Give us a call on Monday and we can discuss a couple more options. We can always make a couple tweaks to get you exactly what you want.... You just need to know what you want first! LOL
