Make my back window rise
I live in georgia and a lot of people cut out the top of a c10 and make a sunroof. I dont like this and had the idea to build a custom system that would make the back glass rise this to me would work better for truck and the way I would like for it to work would make it look the same as it does now with the slide middle window would be replace with arms that moved out
Has anyone seen anything like this are maybe have a idea of how to get the parts made this has been in my head for a long time and Im ready to get it out |

Re: Make my back window rise
would be neater to find a old chevy van and get the parts off a pop out side window and make the whole back glass open at the bottom.......sounds like alot of work to modify a alum. frame slider for a little bit of air coming into the crack.

Re: Make my back window rise
There was a company years ago that had a power back window kit for our trucks. The whole back window slid down behind the seat. I don't think there in business anymore though.

Re: Make my back window rise
I've got one of these I will sell. PM me. It's missing the motor, I think it's just a power window motor. Everything else is there. David

Re: Make my back window rise
I had one in one of my trucks.....really simple to build is prob. why they are not around anymore.....it was nice on a hot day to roll the back window down, kinda like the old suburbans. Im shure someone still makes the kit.

Thats cool, was the kit expensive? i'll bet that was a lot of air coming in on the highway.

Re: Make my back window rise
My friend has an electric sliding window. It slides to the side. Not a hole bunch of air comes in. But once on the highway we were driving and a coke can he had in the bed came flying in like an angry wildabeast!

Re: Make my back window rise
Just remembered a funny story......we were cruising down the road about 70mph down in West Plains, Mo on the back roads with my 73 shorty gmc drinking cans of beverage & my brother hit the rear electric window and rolled it down and it siphened his beverage out of the can all over him and all over my new seats......lmfao it was so funny.....

Re: Make my back window rise
Maybe instead of the whole window have something like the Nisson titans electric window?

Re: Make my back window rise
C.R. LAURENCE was the company that made the power back glass for the 73-87 trucks. You can still find them every once in a while on ebay. They take up about 2 inches behind the seat so if your a tall or big one and need all the room you can get, I wouldn't really recommend it. They do still make a power slider for the trucks and for a while there was a company that made a solid rear glass window that could be opened at either side just like the windows on an extened cab.
Oh BTW I have one of the power back glass assemblies sitting behind my chest freezer in the other room awaiting the arrival of it's new home in a crew cab this summer. The old add for the window...... And pics of my back glass when it was in my old c.c. Here you can see how the glass sits almost straight up as opposed to following the outer lines of the cab. In the second pic below you'll notice the lower corners of the glass are trimmed down to facilitate the tracks inside the lower frame assembly. And here's what it looks like inside the cab of the truck. You lose about 2 1/2 " of space behind the seatup top for the seat to go back all the way but in a crew cab, who cares? It's not going to effect the driver one bit!! At the bottom you lose almost all space behind the seat because of the housing for the glass. It's not very thick it's just the anlge it sits inside the cab at. CRLAURENCE designed it to be as compact as possible and still work for years. The bottom pic is of the motor. All the cables and guides are inside the housing. I made the mistake of opening it up once before to take a look at the internal workings of it. JEEEEZ WAS IS EVER A MAJORLY SUPER P.I.T.A TO REASSEMBLE!!!! As far as install goes, it uses the factory back glass rubber seal and installs from the inside out as opposed to a conventional glass or slider that is installed form the outside in.

I have been kicking around somthing different also on the build we are doing now.......
Now U have me thinking pop out bottom!! like the van side glass on 80's chevy vans......just retrofit stock parts and a seal would be easy. |
