Whats with some Ebay sellers!!!!!!!

JUST VENTING!!!!!!!
Anyway I bought a ac control from a guy in Oklahoma, he charged me $8 to ship, NO WAY possible it cost that much, I did a quick figure $4.50. I just bought a tilt from a guy in Illinois and he told me $27 shipping, I just did a quick figure on it and its $9. I sell on ebay and on here and charge only what Fed Ex charges me but evidently these guys charge handling and whatever, although they say they don't. Sorry just not happy with these guys!!!!!

It seems these days they like to get a handling fee. I can understand if packing is going to be costly though. I bought a rear cab trim piece from plumbcut. He took the time to go buy a piece of 4" PVC pipe to pack it in.... I'll pay extra for that kind of packing.

Byond that it's just guys trying to scam an extra buck off the deal....

Anymore I email for a shipping price before bidding, been burnt to many times on shipping prices. I just got 2 replies tonite, 1 on a 2# hammer, he qouted 10.75 and thats just from Iowa, the second one was for a forge from Cali., I knew it was heavy and would need to be palletized but they wanted 850.00 , I dont mind paying a little extra from the actual shipping amount but some of these people are crazy.

I read the auction page VERY carefully and then WRITE THEM and tell them that they're trying to make bucks off of a bogus "handling" charge and that I will not bid on their item. Stick to your guns and eventually these gougers will knock it off. Also in MY auctions I state clearly: ACTUAL SHIPPING CHARGES, NO BOGUS HANDLING FEES! That sends a message. Write them! H.

If you don't ask before you bid it's your fault. Even if the auction said actual shipping costs. Could be that the seller figures his time and shipping supplies and gas to go to the post office into the actual cost of shipping an item.

As a seller I always charge shipping and handling, nothing crazy but yes its more than actual shipping.

I clearly state costs in the auction and expect buyers to factor it in.

I justify it as my time and packing materials.

Ya there are some people out there that will screw you anyway they can. I stoped selling parts because I was getting the short end of the deal. I have never charged anyone full price for shipping, But that is just me.

So how about a guy charges me $30 for a $7.65 shipment then gives me bad feedback after he refuses to send it unless I give him $30 and when he see's actual cost then he will refund me a difference.... so I agree to $10 refund... I wait 92 days and a few email saying his paypal dosent work.. crap..... he accepts paypal on all his other auction during the same time.

Oh, it was dirt bike carb.

He gives me negative feedback that buyer from Canada Beware..... bids anyway.. what crap.... I asked first before bid... he said yes to Canada shipment... wrote ebay.... proved my story and nothing happens at all. 92 days later as I said I left negative feedback to him that he overquoted shipping and agreed to refund an agreed excess but never did.

It's my only negative feedback.

Actually if you read ebay policy on handling fees it must be listed in the auction.

If you dont list the charges in the listing and then try to charge a guy $30 for a 7.65 shipment its fee avoidance as far as ebay is concerened... so what do you think they do... nothing of course, but send a email making seller aware of that fact.

My wifes sold lots of stuff on ebay, and she runs into the reverse argument. People will email and really ***** about the price of the shipping even though its exactly what the shipper charges. We have to ship US mail. Nearest UPS is an hour away. Gotta remember too, some people may not live right next door to a shipping outlet. Taking a couple hours of your day, and driving 100miles has to add up to something.

I have to agree with chevymad, i have made countless trips to a town 30 miles away to ship stuff ups cause someone wanted it. By the way randy, do you have a fedex account or anything for a discount? I know that you can setup a business acount, has anyone done this?

Some sellers will list the part very low with a higher than normal shipping cost to cover that low starting price. This way, the seller has a lower listing fee.

If someone has a part that they want to sell for $10, they could list it for .99 cents and raise the shipping/handling to cover the rest. That way, ebay can't charge as much and the seller is guaranteed to get his minimum amount. (hope this makes sense)

This is not something I do but have noticed it ALOT. I avoid all auctions where I feel I'm being taken advantage of. (and there are many of them) Also, I can see the shipping cost being slightly higher to cover ebay and paypal fees. They get ya coming and going! Alot of times when you sell on ebay, you end up breaking out even or worse! Sometimes the bids just don't come. It's a gamble.

Tell the seller you'll only bid if he ships via media mail for something like that. Media mail is for all types of books, magazines, CD's, video's etc. It's dirt cheap too!

Thanks for all the input guys, I was a PO'd last night, still am today. I drive 60 miles round trip to ship stuff FED Ex or UPS, I don't charge handling or extra fees, I pesonally think thats part of selling, seller is the one making the money. I asked both to recheck the shipping cost, I had a broken ac control and a tilt here to weigh and measure so I know how much it cost to ship. No Fed Ex account here but if I but anything I have it shipped to a business addy, cheaper.

plus look all over god's green earth for good boxes......

gas to go to fed-x.....

money spend to buy a shipping scale......

then the time it takes to stand there and package the stuff.....

i see no problem making a couple dollars on shipping......

I live in a little town, and I have to use one of the shipping store places. I have found using them for UPS is significantly higher than if drive to the UPS place in the city. Those stores mark up the price a bunch.

Most of my auctions or anything that I sell for that matter i add S&H to it.
I usually try to get quotes off the UPS site then call the UPS store for a box price.

I don't have a collection of boxes to ship stuff in, thats why I use them(UPS Store).
Plus It covers my a$$ when they lose something because of the box broke..
I just show them.Hey YOU boxed it and refunds are usually on the way..

As for bidding on ebay, I have started to fully read the auction page. I got screwed on a shipping price too.. Live and learn I guess..

Yeah Rage. I did forget about the paypal fee's.

They take cash from you too.
A 32.00 item they take like 2-3 bucks.
Then the seller does lose out unless he states add 2.00 for paypal fees.
But some people don't like that. They need to be on the sellers end to realize that it hurts using paypal sometimes..

If ya know it all up front, and you agree to it, bid away! If somebody's trying to rape you, TELL 'EM about it. That's the only way that they'll change their evil ways. If they know I would have bid the price up, maybe they'd make enough $$ on the item.
BTW, USPS priority mail boxes are FREE. Go to www.usps.com and order them. Tubes, big boxes, little boxes, all delivered to your door FREE. Did I mention they are FREE? Also, there's a shipping calculator on this site. Enter zips and weight and Viola! Actual shipping costs! No brainer...
Another thing: If you sell something on E-Pay too cheap, that ain't the buyers fault. That's why they call it an AUCTION. Don't start your price too cheap next time. I've started stuff out at .99 and gotten hosed. That's part of the deal.
Again, let the seller know you won't bid on items that have unreasonable "handling" fees. And retailers? Think of all the coin you're saving on overhead by doing it mail order.... Let's treat each other like we wanna be treated ourselves. Too much to ask? Don't worry, I WON'T bid if I don't like it. The old "like it or lump it" customer service days are over. There are too many places out there who WILL treat you decent to buy from A-holes. Rant mode OFF. H.

I guess I fall in the category of expecting to pay a little for handling, usually consider $1-$3 per shipment to be a fair amount. If the seller doesn't charge a little extra above the actual shipping fee, how can they pay for boxes, packing material and most importantly the time it takes to package/ship the item. Randy-I would be suprised if too many people complained about a small amount added to the cost of shipping the item. The older I get, the more I realize the importance of time and if I'm spending time and money shipping something, there ought to be a little compensation. If somebody complains, they've likely not been on the other side. All that being said, charging excessive shipping fees is BS and I don't agree with that either. $22 to ship a book-what a crock!! Of the few items I sold on ebay, I listed the shipping cost up front based on my own estimate, no matter where it ended up being shipped to. Probably cleared a litte extra on some, lost on a couple others. Nobody ever complained either way.

A friend of mine makes way more than I do, and all he does is go to yard sales, flee markets, and thrift stores and buys cheep glass vases and crap like that. He say's "well, I buy a vase for 50 cents at a yard sale, put it on e-bay for 99 cents, if it sells, I make my money by making $5 dollars or more on shipping".

I don't agree with it, but, hey he's making a killing! I haven't sold much on e-bay, but I always state that the winning bidder will pay what ever The UPS Store charges to pack and ship that item. Helps me both ways... I don't spend all day packing items, and it relieves me of all liability if the item arrives broke because I didn't pack it
