Broken seat springs.

My bench seat has several broken springs on the driver side. It has great new vinyl on it so should I just find a new bottom for the bench and get it recovered in the original vinyl or attempt to repair it?

Re: Broken seat springs.

Since your vinyl is good you may want to get a good frame and transfer the vinyl over to it. It is not that difficult to remove the seat cover and reeinstall it onto a good frame.

Replacement springs were not available when I last looked for some.

Re: Broken seat springs.

I just asked an upholstery guy this today. I have 3 broken flat springs on my driver's side too, with everything else looking real good. He said it's nothing to pull off a few hog rings on that corner and replace the few springs, which can easily be gotten from Year One, where he orders them from.

Re: Broken seat springs.

I have a complete bench seat that you can have, if you want it. Foam is shot, but I think the springs are fine.

I would say replace the broken springs and go with what you have.

Re: Broken seat springs.

I recently recovered the seat in my wrecker project and found some broken springs on the driver side. I just went to the junkyard and found one that had a good passenger side and took the springs from it. That side rarely wears out and they swapped right in.

Re: Broken seat springs.

The ones busted on mine are straight and flat, with a curly section at each end. I saw them shown in a pic in an older post referred to as the "main spring".

Re: Broken seat springs.

Dunenutt I think I will have to take your offer I could use that for some spare parts. The springs on the side are the ones are broken and the zig zag springs on the driver side are sagging the seat looks great but when you sit on it for a lil bit you can tell it is broken. It is really starting to bug me.
