Re: Ignition box mounting location any suggestions??

In my blazer I placed my MSD box on the passenger side floor up as high as I could. I really don't know why I did that but I like how it it's pretty impossible to see from the outside and you don't even know I have it by looking under the hood ( the distributor and coil might give it away though). I'll try to get a couple pics later for you it you want.

I'm still deciding also, . Does it matter how far from the dist.?? Apparently not, if it works on core support.
Pics please of under dash would be cool.

Distance from distributor didn't seem to matter. I had it hidden behind the seat of my 67 El Camino.

Just one but here you go. Oh and the buzz is minor, you'll hear it but it's like a really quiet electric razor...real quiet. Actually it's more like a tick.

Outta sight, easy access. Timing control, for N2O, will be goin where radio was. Still need MSD firewall pass thur for coil lead.
Seems to work fine, 5K miles so far. Though you can hear the MSD box buzz.

Optical illusion in the picture you posted or are those wires resting against the metal of the firewall? If they are, over time they'll chafe, cut through the insulation and "Foom!" fire city.

OMG is that what'll happen? DAMN I'm such a dumbass
I don't know about "fire city" though. Probably just lose spark.
They might chafe if I let them, but I'm in the process of running new wires/connectors. The hose the protects them is outta pic.

I figured the hose or something was out of the pic. Wire insulation can burn with a pretty big flame and the truck insulation is just above it. I've seen several cars burn over the years from things like this and was just trying to be helpful.

Re: Ignition box mounting location any suggestions??

I know this thread's been quiet for a while, but I came up with a new spot and I'm trying to figure out if I'm being creative and innovative...or stupid

I was looking around underneath the hood today and not coming up with great options. I thought about mounting it in the cab, but really don't want to if I can help it. I don't want it to be really visible either.

So...I was thinking maybe underneath the battery shelf! Hidden out of the way, easy connection to the battery and an easy route for the wires inside the top of the fender and back to the wire well on the firewall. Neat, clean and simple. I know there's the risk of battery goo...but my truck is sparkling clean in that regard

Thoughts? Really want to get some feedback before I dive in and do this over the long weekend coming up!

Also, I'll be using this with my Pertronix Ignitor ignition, so it should be interesting to see if there's any real SOTP difference - I don't expect there to be...

I made a shelf for mine out of a diamond plate mud flap and mounted it to the passenger side inner fender.
