Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
I was looking for different ideas for bed wood/bed floors. My (59) fleetside has been butchered with 8" wide spruce planks so I am missing bedstrips and the boards are dished pretty badly.
Show me some pics of what you are running - factory bedwood, steel replacement floors, I have even heard of using composite decking. I'll post a picture of my bedfloor tonight. Thanks in advance to all who reply

Cut and planed the oak board myself, using strips with hidden fastener.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Check out my build thread. I laminated walnut cherry and ash together to come up with something unique. Also I spaced my boards evenly and removed a stainless strip. Cleaned it up nicely I think

Blackdiesel,
Your bed wood is really nice. Lots of time involved on that one! Raymo |

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Hey thanks! It really wasn't that bad. Gluing the boards on end for the quarter sawn look took the most time. The mill work was all very easy.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
OK, so here's a picture of what the po had done, and now I get to re-do. Probably didn't look that bad originally.
Thanks for the tip about the thread in the 67-72 catagory, I'll check it out. Anyone do something other than original bedwood???

S-10 floor in a 52. It's not mine, but I like the idea.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Looking for something other than wood? I welded a sheet of diamond plate in the back of dads truck. Works excellent for weight over the rears and provides traction. In grandpa's 57 we cut a floor out of a mid 90s bed and welded it in. No upkeep when you do I this way. However I like the wood in mine. I finished it with an automotive clear. All the other crap they say to use is junk IMO. Seal it good and be done with it.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Mine is not super fancy but it did not cost me but $40 so.. it worked for me.. Used plywood with alum diamond plate on top Not completely done but almost there..
Have to finish the corners and do some polishing and it will be done... then its time to work on the bed panels |

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Some of the beds shown in this thread are beautiful. Some of the nicest I've ever seen.
How do you plan on using your truck when you get the new floor in it? If you plan on using it like a truck at all you might be better off doing it back like it came from the factory with the wood floor painted body color. Not as exciting as the ones shown, but more useable. My experience has been that when you make it too nice you either can't use it or it will get scratched and look bad. Also, even the best spar varnish won't really hold up to weather very well. My recently aquired 57 has steel step plate in the floor but I am going to remove it and put it back original, using oak and stainless strips. My second choice would be the metal S-10 bed floor. |

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
i dont use my '57 for anything remotely close to "work." i have enough wrapped up in this truck i could have bought nearly a brand spankin new John Deere cab tractor for the same money. Theres no need to work my toys. I have other trucks for that

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
I used replacement sheets for late model beds. Underneath is 1" square tubing for support and a 20 gallon gas tank. Only the rear crossmember is the same. I'm going to seam seal the edges and either paint or use bedliner. Also I figure if I take a lawn chair or cooler to a show I won't worry about it. I just wanted something different than the beautiful bed wood you guys did. I'm in awe of your workmanship.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
I'm not ready to start the bed yet but i have a plan.
I have Red Oak boards that will be lightly stained black with Black bed strips and chrome head bolts to match my flat black paint. |

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Don't want to hijack the thread, but I would like some good pics of some bed crossmembers. I don't have any at all and am trying to figure out what to use.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Mine doesn't see much hauling these days other then a cooler and a couple of folding chairs from time to time but here it is. My boards are wrapped in the same material as my interior.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Thanks for all the replies and pictures. I won't be using mine to haul more than golf clubs or similar. I think I will go with the stock wood bedfloor and stain it black with polished strips. Truck will be silver, leaving the "arrow" and interior white.
