HEI Setup Question
I bought my HEI distrubitor 2nd hand and all I did was replace the cap, rotor and coil cover. My question is do I have to ground it somehow? I mean I saw in some of the conversion pics that there was a ground wire added to them.
Well mine has a ground wire as shown in this picture and I don't think I need to add one now do I? Thanks in advance!

Re: HEI Setup Question
That's all mine has. Just make sure the connection is clean with no corrosion etc.

Re: HEI Setup Question
It's grounded from that connector through distributor frame and down to the engine block.
On mine, I just made sure that the base where it contacts the block was clean and there was metal to metal contact. I also lightly sanded the bottom of the clamp and polished the threads on the bolt to the engine block. Not sure you need to do all that though. |

Re: HEI Setup Question
in your picture, there are 3 tangs, that get connected to the wiring from the distributor, and from your 12v+ source. The center one is a ground strap that is between the coil and the distributor cap. This is the ground for your distributor.
