LT1 Help?????
I have a chance to get a 1993 LT1 with an A4 tranny complete with all accessories and computer. Before I do anything I have a few questions about this setup that I hope you all can help me with.
1. How hard would it be to get this complete setup in the '71? 2. What kind of drive train moddifications would I have to do? 3. What about the fuel system and electronics? I have a TH400 that I was going to have built for the truck, could I just use the LT1 and back it with the TH400? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated..

The LT1 swap is fairly easy. You will need to have the factory wiring harness reworked as well as the computer. I sent mine to Fuel Injection Specialties in San Antonio. I believe it was around $800 to rework the harness AND reprogram the computer. You will also either need to notch the frame for the stock accessories or go to Corvette brackets. You will need an in-tank fuel pump as well. I've got mine mounted in my fuel cell. If you are running a 400, the speedometer shouldn't be an issue. Drop me a line if you need any other info. I believe that there is a carb intake available for the LT1 also. So you could do away with some of the issues.

Saxmo, do you have any info on that carb intake for the LT1's?

What kind of horse power could I expect to get out of this engine with the carb intake and a hot cam kit?

Not sure, the engine is a complete LT1 out of a 1993 F-Body, still adding things up to see what I can do. I might just rebuild my 350 and throw on some Vortec heads and a nice intake and cam. I really want the LT1 so I can be fuel injected, but I looks like there are going to be a few hidden costs. I could just get it and do the carb intake thing for now and, then later rebuild it and use the fuel injection.
The engine is complete with all acc.,harness, and cpu. The guy even has the trans for it. Quote:

Yep, the LT1 has quite a few costs. The 93 model has the older optispark system, none of which were that great. Is the 93 a runner?

The coil pac conversion is nice but it will cost more than the engine.

OPTISPARK=OPTICRAP!
All the optispark setup from 95 up work great. They are hooked up to the engine's vacuum to keep moisture out of the distributor. 94 and down just has three drain holes that do nothing but suck up water. NOTE: the 95-up Optisparks cost around $299 from the dealer. I was told my engine was a 95. The Optispark went out, I ordered a 95 unit, I got it and it wouldn't fit. They have a different keyway drive than 94 down. Anyway, I sent the $299 95 Optispark back and ordered the 94 model-----> $500!! My only complaint about the LT1. Good strong engine. I have a 4L60E tranny behind it with 3:73 gears and 28" od tires which leads to about 22 MPG. I was surprised. Later, Mark |

Thanks for all the info guys, I think I'm leaning more towards just rebuilding mine and putting the TH400 behind it. For cost reasons it will be more beneficial right now. I'll have to hold out for an LS1 setup later down the road.
