rear end question
Ok, i searched everywhere but i cant seem to find the answer.
I got 1969 1/2 ton c10 2wd with 3 seed manual. I am gonna put turbo 350 trenny in it that is rated for 750 hp. so i want my rear end to stand up to it. its got 12 bolt rear end but i dont think its actual rear end that they put in cars its different. does anybody know what it is rated for and if i can build it up to specs. i know i am gonna need different drive shaft can u let me know where can i get one that will handle that much power and what size. And if i do have to go with ford 9 inch is there a kit available for my truck? its a lot of questions but i am new to American muscle. i will be running 427 small block built for 91 octane running around 500 hp plus 100 shot of nitrous. and use is street and strip with street legal slicks. Thank you ahead |

Re: rear end question
The 12 bolts rears, from what I've heard, are near-bulletproof. Just make sure the gearing of the rear end is what you need for a high speed strip truck vs. a high-torque towing/hauling vehicle.

Re: rear end question
12 bolt should be fine. If you wanted to run a ford 9 inch you can order a kit to run any rear end you want under your truck.

Re: rear end question
You should be able to get whatever bolt pattern axels you want in a ford 9 inch too but nothing with the word ford in it is going to touch my truck.

Re: rear end question
I have not torn my 12 bolt out yet but if I do a 9"w/ Detriot locker is the way to go. They are bullet proof, and that blue oval will get you down the track better.

Re: rear end question
You can beef it up, but a car 12 bolt is stronger. If you really put the power out you are talking about and hook it up at 4000#, you will break it. A lot. 12 bolts don't do well with big tires and lots of traction. At last count I think 6 was how many I had broken in my Jimmy. I'd be looking for a Dana 60 and have new ends put on for semi float 5 lug axles. Especially if you have a coil spring truck. Much cheaper than doing a custom 9".
