So... what do I do with it?
Not sure what exactly I want to with the truck I got last night. 72 chevy cheyenne C20 has tach, really nice grill and grill shell, nice tailgate, full set of 16.5 wheels with new 10 years ago when parked tires(including spare), 350/350 with a dana 60 rear, aftermarket trans cooler, edelbrock carb, mallory HEI, third seat belt(all in black) and few other odds and ends. the bad is the usual rust in the rockers and around top of windshield and a touch around the back window. The lady thought it had a blown head gasket... I found no water in oil and vice versa. So after checking all fluids and making sure it would turn over I took the chance on it. I also bought another box a few weeks back that I'm gonna cut down that has the two missing pieces of chrome as well... So I got it home and unloaded it and figured what the heck... poured a little gas in the carb, through a battery in it and hit the key. Boom, fired right up. brought it up to temp and did all the usual checks... all looks good, except the gas smell. Looked under the truck and fuel (if you can call it that, smells more like paint thinner)was pouring out of the return line. The truck has three tanks, which the saddle tanks are gonna go away, so I fixed the leak with a new piece of hose and drove it around the yard a bit. The rear reservoir on the master cylinder was bone dry so brakes are up in the air. I'll try to get to bleeding them tomorrow and figure out where the leak is but for now, I'm torn... Do I pull the tanks and fix the few little issues and drive it or do I move it on to the next guy or do I part it? What would you do? Now for the pics.

Re: So... what do I do with it?
Another piece of info... I have 6 trucks right now, and 7 cars so this is definitely not needed but I don't have a problem having it around either..

Re: So... what do I do with it?
Looks like a good project for someone if you decide to sell it. I wouldn't part it out though, looks to good for that, just my opinion. Joseph

Re: So... what do I do with it?
I think it looks too good to part out too. I say drive it and enjoy it with a for sale sign on it. Looks like a nice, mostly untouched find, congrats!!!

Re: So... what do I do with it?
My plan is drive it till you sell it. You will generate interest in it if you drive. Meaning, someone will ask "is it for sale?"

Re: So... what do I do with it?
If the cab supports are good I wouldn't part it. I like the color scheme.

Re: So... what do I do with it?
I think it would be a shame to part it out.

Re: So... what do I do with it?
Well I'm kinda leaning towards get it reliable and put a sign in it and see what happens. Next question.... What you think its worth?

Re: So... what do I do with it?
Please don't part it out. There are people who would love to have that truck. I know I would!!
But seriously, I like the idea of just fixing and driving around with a for sale sign in it. I'm sure that would generate a lot of interest in it. That's incredible that some people, previous owner, would just let something sit for years not knowing exactly what is wrong with a vehicle and then just decide to sell it. I've never understood why people don't just take a vehicle to a mechanic when you can't figure out a problem. Seems like that would be better than just letting something just sit around wasting away. Good save! Keith |

Re: So... what do I do with it?
part it out. you will have an easier time selling good parts than you will junk, and you will get more money for them.

Re: So... what do I do with it?
I'd clean it up using just elbow grease, get it reliable as cheaply as possible.
Drive it around town to get it known, then put a for sale sign in the back window or post it online to sell. Parting out takes too much time and energy to make it profitable in my opinion. But then, that's me and I tend to be impatient and or lazy.

Re: So... what do I do with it?
I'd tinker with it and sell it whole if I didnt want to keep it. What is up with that front license plate mount; looks like it's mounted to an arm or something?

Re: So... what do I do with it?
They have a huge hitch mounted in three places under the rear so no place for a spare to mount. So they fabbed that gem up and hung the tire out front. Currently though it's laying in the bed.

Re: So... what do I do with it?
So I got all the lights working and pulled a mound of extra wires out of it tonight and got the brakes functioning enough to cruise the back roads a bit. She lays rubber pretty awesome too. Damn thing is growing on me. I cut the tire hanger off too... Looks way better! Oh and I hooked the tach back up to make sure it works... it does.

Re: So... what do I do with it?
Got truck running, driving and functioning. Sat in the yard for a month and sold it this afternoon to friend looking for a good project. Didn't make much money but friend has a great start at a reasonable price and the truck will stay on the road!
