What is a good replaement Rear Axle for 70 GMC C2500?

I have a 1970 GMC 3/4 ton 4x2 with a Dana 60 rear axle with leaf spring suspension.
The axle housing is damaged, spun a bearing on the right rear. What is a good replacement as I cannot find another Dana 60. I know the perches and shock mounts will have to be modified. Would something like a 2007 with disc brakes be a good option or stick with drums? My Dana 60 is dismantled so now I don't know the width of it.

I have a 1970 GMC 3/4 ton 4x2 with a Dana 60 that spin the right rear bearing, believe it or not. Mine's blue!

But anyway, I had the machine shop machine and then sleeve it. It wasn't that expensive, but they already had it out of the truck.

I had mine done at Differentials Northwest, but that's obviously not local for you - but I bet there is somewhere local, or even just a machine shop.

Might be cheaper and easier than replacing the whole axle, though it sounds like you've disassembled it.

I had to use a cut off wheel and air hammer to get the bearing off. The bearing welded itself to the spindle, turned dark blue. Half of the thickness of that spindle came off with the bearing. I'm not sure how strong it is anymore.

Re: What is a good replaement Rear Axle for 70 GMC C2500?

I'm in the KC area and am doing some work for my 70 GMC K2500.

I have located a 72 C20 D60 leaf spring axle that I could use the guts from, but not the housing. Will your guts work yet? (Carrier, R&P, Carrier, Axles, Spindles, Drums?)

I realize that freight will not be cheap from KC to CA, but without all the stuff in it, it's a lot lighter.

Let me know if you're interested and I will consider pursuing it. I have no problem shipping on a pallet or truck freight. PM me and maybe we can work out something.

I don't need the housing, but I need everything else.

That would be awesome. Then I wouldn't have to get a different drive line.
Every thing in mine is good. How much do you think it weighs?

I'll try to get a weight on it this week. I'm GUESSING 150 LB.

Still going to cost time or paying someone $500 to install the R&P.

Yea, it's going to be expensive. I was wondering what later model rear end would work. Like one with disc brakes. I have heard some bad things about the Chevy rear ends with disc brakes but that was on the 1/2 ton not 3/4 ton. I have seen other rear ends at the local Pick & Pull in 3/4 and 1 ton vans, they got some big 'ol 13" drum brakes. But I do like the Dana 60 with the slide-off drums, don't have to remove the hub to inspect the rear shoes.
