I have a plantronics (?) electronic points system. Its one of the cheaper alternatives but I have been very happy with it. There are some better units out there for more money.

I think farside847 meant "pertronix" and not plantronics, pertronix does electronic ignition systems for Chevies, fords, VW and quite a few other, they also sell a CD box called the "second strike" and hipo coils.

Yup, your right. It was PerTronix. It was about $60 but now I see they cost more...

My "old" HEI took a dump, one day.....and I bought an ACCEL remanufactured HEI to replace it. Best money I have spent in a looooooong time.

Another board member posted that M&H makes a points replacement that uses just the stock wiring where as Pertronix Ignitor II uses a separate power wire. Can't find the link...

I bought a Mallory HEI for $149 at the speed shop here. I think Pertronix is about $89. Hei is super easy, but you need to add a set of spark plug wires (get 'em for a '75 corvette) into the price tag. Well worth it in my opinion.

Pertronix
I went with a Pertronix upgrade on a stock 350 many years ago. With no other changes the car picked up 3 MPH in the 1/4 (approx 30 hp!). I was impressed.
Your first thought might be that my points were messed up - not true. I had them in perfect form and thought myself that the upgrade wouldn't do much. I was amazed! Last edited by MrC1; 10-10-2005 at 10:21 PM. |

I got the Pertonics HEI "Flamethrower" on my big block, comes new in the box, very nice. I used the MSD cut to fit wires, and with some loomes you can make it very neet. Wish I had done it sooner!!

I have a decent article in the FAQ on this swap with lots and lots of pictures.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=148346 If this doesn't work for you, look at the index of the FAQ forum. Search this thread using the FIND feature in your browser (CTRL+F) and look for "HEI": http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=157669
