Ac wire question

I have a 71 Chevy and the air compressor won’t engage however I did notice that there is a plug under the dash(2green wires and 1 yellow) it’s a 2 post plug and I can’t find where it plugs in .. any help will be appreciated.. thanks

If I'm not mistaken it should plug into the switch near the center vent? (if that makes sense)

Sounds like the 2-prong plug that goes to the A/C compressor switch. Kinda hard to find but it's located behind the heater box under the dash, slightly to the right of the cig. lighter. This is what you're looking for:



The switch mounts with the connector prongs down, and the button activator on top. The button is operated by the A/C and Heater outlet slider at the center of the HVAC control.

Glad I could help. Last year we did a lot of A/C work on my K20 and had several issues. Installed virtually all new parts but compressor would not come on because that switch was faulty. Had a bear of a time finding it and replacing it.

I do have another question.. the pass floor vent opens with vacuum but doesn’t close .. is there supposed to be a spring on the door to close it??? Thanks Jim

Yes, there's a spring from the vacuum actuator to a tab on the vent door.
