There's something wrong with us!

It's saturday and a long-weekend for most of us too. Some of us will go camping. Some will host or attend "end of summer" BBQ's. But all of us will be thinking about the next mod, do-dad, or upgrade for our beloved trucks!
While most folks dream of the day they can afford their new C6, Viper or 911 twin-turbo, we scour Craigslist, Ebay, Nickel-Ads and U-Pull-It's looking for a OE set of Parchment seatbelts, or that elusive set of '72 extreme-curl tow hooks! Words like "Highlander", "Longhorn", "C-Notch" hold special meaning in the lexicon of truck-dom.
I for one am about to blast through that obligatory weekend "honey-do" list so I can head out to the shop and continue seperating the inner and outer panels of a replacement LWB bedside so I can do some rust mitigation. Most people think I'm insane (including my wife) but I know I can come here and find an entire community of like-minded "truck-geeks" who understand the therapuetic benefits of restoring something that by modern standards has no business being on the road!
We are the true conservationists. To hell with those tree-hugging, foo-foo coffee drinkin', birkenstock wearin' hippies in their disposable Subaru's with the Kayak on top.....we're saving natural resources by restoring and reusing something old, rather than buying new!
I love my truck, I love working on my truck, I spend a great deal of time rummaging up parts and whatnot for my truck, and I'll hopefully be able to drive my truck for a good long time. When my wifes Acura has long bit the dust and has been relegated to scrap- I will relish in the notion that I still have my '67 Chevy truck and it's still running strong.

Re: There's something wrong with us!

You said it pretty darn good I think.

My wife was off work today so she wanted to go on a long garage sale route along Highway 61 north of here.

On these garage sale trips I am always on the lookout for something that I can use on my '71 C-10 farm truck to make it better or more useful. Well today I lucked into a deal I could not pass up, a complete hitch set-up with a 2" ball for $20.00.

Now the fun of making it work, good therapy for an old guy like me.

Re: There's something wrong with us!

I second those emotions......

For my weekend, I have reclaimed the half of the garage that my wife said was hers, for her. I don't have squat in it. My half? Yeah, you know what it looks like. I got "stuff" in there. Bad thing is I have thrown out some other "stuff" in the past week, making a trip to the dump on Wednesday and working on another load over the long weekend. Yippee.....

Dingfodgy, you sound like a true "brother". I share your sentiments, to a "T". Your verbage is spot-on; your cliches ring true. Amen, brother, to you and yours. Enjoy your man cave of a garage....at least I'm gonna claim my half as my man cave. Primitive in comparison to some of the luxo-caves shown on HGTV, but it's MY mancave.

Re: There's something wrong with us!

My first thought on reading the thread title was that I was going to be lumped up for sitting here on a beautiful day of a long weekend at the end of summer reading the message board, instead of actually getting something done.

I'm glad I was wrong, but still feel a bit guilty while typing this out. I've spent the better part of the last 2 days following the wife and kids around various stores. I need to get out to the garage, with a beer and at least pretend I'm accomplishing something worthwhile.

I agree 100 percent. It's nice to talk to other people that understand why we all do what we do. Keep on preachin' it BRO! Maybe one day my wife will understand it! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I am glad that I was not the only one who stayed in my garage most of the weekend. My wife said that EVERYONE goes to their cabins and we are the only ones who stay at home.

I'm in that boat also; Hunny-do list (extensively long at times with house renovations) or truck stuff. Friends of mine aways ask why I never sit down?

Seems like the Honey-do list is always the longest when the weather is nice for workin' on the truck.

May those who understand the nature of Chevrolet and GMC truclk

Re: There's something wrong with us!

Very well said, but now multiply that same list by 2.5 for me. I do the same thing for my corvette, looking for more go fast goodies and deals. And I say ".5" cause of my jeep...but its for sale cause apparently I only have time for 2 hobbies....and I've chosen truck restoration and racing...no time for off roading. Anyone want to buy a jeep?
