power steering brackets???

is there a difference between 1971 power steering brackets and 1969 power steering brackets(the part that bolts to the front of the engine and the motor mount)?

there are minor differences... but i can't remember what. They both mount in the same location and the same way.

The 69 brackets are made entirely of cast iron. The 71 bracket has a stamped steel backer instead of a cast iron part like the 69 has.

I just did this on an 83. The brackets for the newer one seem to be better. But on mine i have the older ones. Pump is the same and the Oil can is able to be swapped if there is a clearance issue. I went to the wrecking yard and got the brackets off of a newer sbc they bolted right up. The oil can hit on the older pump. I changed it to an older one from another pump I had laying around and it worked.

The older ones look like a cradle at the bottom and are tough to get tight without prying on the pump. there is yet another one which might be the one you are talking about being the 71 and newer. this is also a stamped steel bracket with 4 mounting holes that bolt to the front of the pump behind the pulley. the newer one only mounts with 3 holes on the pump and is stamped steel bracket as well.

on my 70 I used the oldest version.
on my 55 I used one off of an mid-late 70's truck (i got pump and bracket) all bolted up fine.
on the 83 I am helping my brother inlaw put back on the road. I gave him a whole set up I had from a 72. It had clerance issues so we switched the can and used a set of newer brackets I had.

Make sure you get a pump from 80 or older it should be the same. *inverted 45 deg flare/81 newer uses O Ring style* brackets do seem to be interchangeable. However if you have an issue like one of the ones above that should give you some sort of answers.
