There are plenty of stained wood beds...I want to see some pics of painted wood beds. I'm thinking of doing mine in red with charcoal colored metal strips. Please post some pics!!

No pics but you might also consider a darker red stain with the charcoal strips.Seems like you could keep the woodgrain look with a twist.

I painted mine the same paint as the body

the oak was very badly weathered
it was either paint it or new lumber

I used the same paint that i sprayed my truck with, seal first then rub in paint use the same line to finish, looks easy but took a little pactice to keep a wet edge, try out on scraps first to see if you want this. You may not see it in my photo but some thought the blue on the natural wood had that "treated" lumber look so i wouldnt do a blue again.

Another variation would be to thin out your color and tone the surface before or after you do the seal/color rub clear seal each step

As much a prefer stock looking trucks, this is one that caught my eye. I'd use brushed stainless to tone it down just a bit while still preventing rust.

WoW Tim. That caught both of my eyes!

I am in the process of doing mine but have no intentions of making it look as nice as the one above.

I took some blue paint from my 69 Chevelle and thinned it out and rubbed it on with a rag into the wood until I got the color I wanted.

I am using just pressure treated decking boards and will not clear coat as I use my truck to haul car parts all the time. I do have the stainless strips, they are just waiting for me to find the time to actually install them.

why not just tint the ploy .. it'll keep the grain , and only be one step..

I have plenty of blue dye left over from this guitar,

I've thoguht about using it for my bed as well.

Don't you have to first treat the wood with linseed oil to get the paint to look like what sameyrasmea72 has? Beautiful finish by the way and I really like the blue that SStim posted as well.
