Saddle wheel on Ebay

I would be very wary of this wheel on Ebay. It appears to be a black wheel painted saddle color: http://www.ebay.com/itm/72-Chevy-Tru...sories&vxp=mtr Sharpie

I give him the benefit of the doubt that he THINKS it is an original saddle wheel. Every original wheel that I have seen has been a solid color from the outside in.

That wasn't a restored wheel,I don't think. I didn't post anything earlier because I wanted to bid on it...but forgot. I would have paid that for it. I think it was a fine original example. In '91 I paid about that much for my N.O.S. saddle wheel because even then that was an amazing find and just what I needed. I never ended up using it and still reserved about putting it in My '72. Although I'm still stuck on keeping it (i case my truck mysteriously ends up being show quality) but if I "did" decide to sell it,I would ask $500. Especially seeing what repros cost, nice OEM,1/2 decent OEM,and restored are going for.

Here's mine for comparison:

Hey Tim, If you compare your original metal hub on the back to the one on Ebay notice the difference there as well. That one also had the potential to be a re-pop black wheel that was painted saddle. Maybe we will hear from the new owner and the mystery will be solved! Sharpie

Thumbs down Re : Repop Steering Wheels

I bought a light green steering wheel from The Truck Shop and it's the DeLuxe Green , not the base green I want & need , it's flimsy & flexes way too much but at least it doesn't have the HUGE GAPING GAPS my original cracked up wheel did .

I've contacted some re casting places and they say there's not enough call for these so I'd be the first one to the tune of $700 as I'd have to pay for the mould.... .

Dammit .

Re: Saddle wheel on Ebay

So I guess I did not know are the 69 - 72 wheels solid colored plastic? both of my 67-8 wheels are painted body color over black plastic. Good info if that is a painted/restored wheel.

Re: Saddle wheel on Ebay

Yes,'68-earlier wheels were painted over black molded material and 69-72 were molded in color. From '73-on all wheels were molded black and remained black...no more color-matched wheels.

Wheel sold for $310.35 in the previous auction, but now it's relisted. http://www.ebay.com/itm/72-Chevy-Tru...sories&vxp=mtr I guess we get to see what a black wheel painted saddle brings a second time! Sharpie

Re: Saddle wheel on Ebay

There isn't any feedback from the first auction. Maybe the buyer figured it out wasn't NOS and filed a claim?? He has a few other high dollar NOS parts in his feedback like a $770 NOS glovebox door

Re: Saddle wheel on Ebay

This isn't a thread to advertise steering wheel restoration. But,while we're hijacking I have to say these steering wheels are molded in color, not painted. So,there is no paint code for their color. Besides, they were not made to match body colors, they were made to match interior colors. Also,I've seen a lot of restored steering wheels done by professional companies in the business for decades and they generally will crack again. It's a generally known fact. There is no way someone who just started repairing cracked steering wheels can know their work will not do the same thing.

as will an original non-cracked steering wheel. And you are correct..this wasn't an ad to "advertise" restored steering wheels...until people showed interest and that is referred to as "networking" Also I have restored a few steering wheels before my time with these trucks.

Wink Re : BE NICE !

I asked for help here and caused topic drift , O.K. ? .

It's still about getting a decent steering wheel , I paid good $ for the wrong color repop one and no one locally wants to take on the job .

FWIW , the interior of my '69 C/10 matches the exterior exactly , every bit of it , being a base model rig .

Be glad I didn't highjack the tread to ask why oh why can't I find a 6 cylinder tach .

Amen.. It is a general discussion board.. We are having a conversation. If I for instance wanted to talk about the awesome lunar ellipse that went down and how many got to actually see it.. I hope that is acceptable..

You just don't get it. It's fine to discuss whatever topic you want,as long as it's content is what's allowed here (remember our first conversation about your unsolicited, lengthy, and graphic definition of the term "qued"?). What you do is start your own thread posted in the appropriate place. For instance, the lunar eclipse is not 67-72 GM truck related so you would post that in "General Discussion". This site was designed to work a certain way and thousands of members have had no problem going along with it for many years before you came along. Why don't you take a look around and see how things are done here rather than just do things how you see fit? People who have been on this site a long time can set a good example for you,if you pay attention.

I'm done and I apologize for this type of conversation that does not belong posted in a thread, but it seems some people are setting bad examples and others are following and I'm about fed up.

Re: Saddle wheel on Ebay

as a 67-68 example, I just sold a wheel that had never been off the truck (previous owner had it since 71, so a little bit of assuming here) and it was painted fawn over light green.... it was GM and they did what they had to to get trucks out the door....
